Job Description

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for evaluating selected patients within the designated service.

  • Operates under the standard procedures established for the NP role adhering to policy and the requirements of the California Board of Registered age-appropriate patient assessments including history taking and physical examinations following departmental protocols. Continuously collects and assesses data focusing on physiological psychosocial cultural spiritual and cognitive status including patient/family education family involvement and patient advocacy.
  • Consult with supervising physicians or other clinicians as needed based on patient requirements and assessment findings.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other clinicians in the department to ensure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators for patients in the designated service.
  • Review medical records for follow-up or ordering diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Maintains communication with other healthcare providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency effectiveness and consistency of care.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with healthcare team members patients and families respecting staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Appropriately delegates tasks and coordinates activities of healthcare team members evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.
  • Applies safety principles identified by the institution performs efficiently in emergency situations follows established protocols remains calm informs appropriate persons and documents events.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for personal professional practice participates in staff development activities and shows knowledge of legal issues including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Participates in unit and department Performance Improvement activities and nursing research as requested identifying and solving problems effectively.
  • Exhibits a service philosophy in all interactions with patients families and healthcare team members demonstrating proficiency in using computers and telecommunication tools to document track and convey information.
  • Fulfills the expectations established for specialty roles if practicing in a specialty area.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Requirements
Experience
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a nurse practitioner.
One (1) year (within the past three (3) years) experience as an NP providing care for endocrine conditions. Specialized training in the field of endocrinology is required.

Education
  • Masters Degree in Nursing (unless you are grandfathered into California Business and Professions Code requirement in January 1 2008)
  • Completion of a Masters Program in Adult NP Family Practice NP or Pediatric NP required: Adult or Family NP if practice limited to adults; Family or Pedi NP if practice is limited to pediatric patients.
License Certification Registration
  • Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number (California)
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate (California)
  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Basic Life Support
  • Nurse Practitioner National Certificate
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Must meet credentialing requirements established for nurse practitioners within the system (Masters Degree in Nursing and National Certification from one of the following organizations: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Credentialing Center; National Certification Corporation for Obstetric Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties; National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses.)
  • Candidates must meet the requirements to apply for PTAN (Provider Transaction Account Number) at the time of hire and apply within 30 days of hire
  • Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
  • Specialized training in the field of endocrinology is required.
