Ottawa University (established in 1865) one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park Kansas.

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the implementation and supervision of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance. The Assistant Athletic Performance Coach works closely with the Director of Athletic Performance sports coaches athletic trainers and other athletic performance staff to supervise the safe implementation of athletic performance programming for all student- athletes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

  • Assists in the development and implementation of sport-specific strength speed and conditioning programs for assigned athletics programs.
  • Assists with nutritional guidance for the athletics programs at the level qualified for individual student-athletes as needed working closely with the athletic training staff and coaches.
  • Interacts with members of the coaching staffs to discuss sport and player specific needs for strength and conditioning.
  • Regularly communicates with the athletic training staff regarding injuries injury prevention planning and player-specific modifications to programs.
  • Maintains up to date records on the performance training program of each team and specific individual workouts of all student-athletes. Assist with testing and monitoring programs for effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with and supports other coaches and personnel within the athletic department.
  • Ensures adherence to the NAIA and rules and regulations including the NAIA Champions of Character 5 core values
  • Provides supervision and monitoring of student-athletes utilizing the athletic facilities.
  • Monitors the BAPC checking equipment functionality and maintain general facility cleanliness.
  • Acts as a responsible party for upholding the highest standards of strength training conditioning injury prevention and rehabilitation of student-athletes in collaboration with the athletic training staff.
  • Provides supervision and mentoring to interns and practicum students as they gain hands on experience and education in the strength & conditioning program.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity):
Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: (experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity)
Coaching experience prefer collegiate level experience.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: List required and/or preferred certification industry specific requirements required or preferred use of equipment and all necessary job skills abilities and knowledge competencies) Provide a list of items below:

  • Must be a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). OR
  • Must be a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association
  • Effective interpersonal communication and motivation skills
  • Ability to manage individuals and complex tasks

WORKING CONDITIONS (Physical attributes required to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation - examples: sitting lifting # bending driving environmental factors or elements noise level stairs in a building or other factors that will affect working conditions). Provide a list of items below:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending pulling pushing and lifting; frequent prolonged and irregular hours and exposure to varying temperatures.
