Job Description

JOB TITLE: FACILITY AND GROUNDS TECHNICIAN DEPARTMENT: FACILITY OPERATIONS

SALARY RANGE: $40560 FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: RVC/TRC Operations Supervisor

SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12-month position/PEERS

Position Summary

The Facility and Grounds Technician is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair and groundskeeping tasks across campus or facility properties. This position ensures buildings infrastructure and outdoor areas are safe functional and aesthetically maintained. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player with hands-on experience in facility upkeep and ground care.

Essential Job Duties

Facility Maintenance

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on building systems including electrical plumbing HVAC and carpentry.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Respond to and complete assigned work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Replace light bulbs ceiling tiles air filters door hardware and other common building components.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks such as winterization or storm preparation.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to assisting with moving furniture heavy equipment and supplies snow removal attending college functions serving on committees and attending community events.
  • Operate company vehicles equipment and hand tools to complete assignments.

Grounds Maintenance

  • Maintain landscaping including mowing trimming weeding mulching and leaf removal.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers trimmers blowers and tractors.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways entrances and parking lots as required.
  • Maintain irrigation systems and assist in minor repairs.
  • Ensure walkways and outdoor areas are free from debris hazards and safety concerns.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment including skid steers aerial lifts and front-end loaders in a safe and effective manner.

Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Assist with event setup and breakdown including moving tables chairs and signage.
  • Support custodial staff with large clean-up efforts or special projects.
  • Provide input during facility improvement planning or renovation projects.
  • Participate in training or workshops to stay current with tools techniques and regulations.
  • Assist other maintenance team members as needed in specialty trades (electrical plumbing HVAC etc.).

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general maintenance or groundskeeping.
  • Experience with hand and power tools small engine equipment and landscaping tools.
  • Working knowledge of general building systems and landscape maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to operate maintenance vehicles and power equipment safely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Willingness to work outside normal work hours and weekends as needed to complete projects emergency calls and or snow removal.

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Five years construction or landscaping knowledge within a commercial setting.
  • Experience in one or more trades including painting drywall repair carpentry plumbing door hardware locks electrical HVAC controls and hardware for fire security and lighting systems.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
