Work Schedule: 1.0 FTE Continuing Position - 7.50 hours per day - 180-daybase contract per year (Monday - Friday)

Base & TRI Salary Schedule at RAP Teacher will plan and deliver engaging lessons in person and online focused on the following trades-specific content areas: Workplace Behavior and Safety Ironwork Welding Carpentry Cement Masonry Fiber Optic Electrical Labor Craft Residential and Commercial Electrical Sprinklerfitting Plumbing Pipefitting Steamfitting Sheet Metal Skilled Trades Career Preparation and Exploration and all phases of the construction process to complete Capstone Projects. The teacher will cooperate with RAP partners and local industries cultivating opportunities that lead to classroom partnerships site visits internships or entry-level employment opportunities and further education in related occupations for students. The RAP teacher will occasionally engage in after-hours and weekend events as part of the program.
Based on framework and current skilled trades industry standards the RAP Teacher will consistently plan prepare and deliver quality instruction in all subject areas. The RAP Teacher will provide engaging relevant standards-based grading teaching and learning at the secondary level via a robust blended learning model. The RAP Teacher will proactively communicate with parents RAP staff partner school staff and trade partners to support student success. The RAP teacher will maintain a current grade book and lesson plan book. The ongoing and cyclical assessment process will be used to assess student progress and guide lesson planning. The RAP Teacher will possess strong proactive classroom management skills and strategies specific to the classroom and shop setting keeping safety at the forefront. The RAP Teacher will actively engage in professional development to maintain current best practices in skilled trades skills and lesson delivery to improve student achievement and career opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual
assignment the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Valid Washington State Teacher certificate Career & Technical Education certificate and/or equivalent industry experience.
- Recent successful skilled trades teaching experience at the high school level
- Solid classroom management and supervision skills required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to effectively meet the developmental needs of students
- 1st Aid & Adult/Child CPR training (completed within 30 days from date of hire and to be maintained for the duration of this job)
- Consistently prepare tools and materials specific to each lesson
- Monitor student activities to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Demonstrate effective construction skill teaching practices providing clear and intentionally focused instruction using state and industry standards subject matter content and district curriculum.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs to promote personal skill development and achievement.
- Provide an exceptional educational experience to all students; communicate enthusiasm for learning and the ability to proactively refocus or de-escalate students.
- Apply current construction industry standards and teaching strategies to ensure successful learning and application of hands-on skills.
- Utilize rubrics to assess and monitor student progress and skill development providing written feedback and observations to teachers and administration.
- Communicate and collaborate with RAP staff and partners to improve the quality of student outcomes foster student success and achievement and program success.
- Direct volunteers and/or student aides to provide a safe and effective pre-apprenticeship school worksite that addresses the needs of individual students.
- Utilize district-adopted RAP curriculum to guide instruction
- Uphold foster and maintain established standards of behavior required to provide an orderly safe and productive environment for learning.
- Actively seek consultation and advice from the RAP staff about current industry best practices safety protocols equipment use and skills necessary for working at a state-recognized pre-apprenticeship school.
- Skills in effective planning and implementation of lessons and assessments based on state standards subject matter content and program curriculum reflective of current industry standards.
- Report incidents (child abuse fights substance abuse etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code and district and school policies
- Direct and evaluate support personnel
- Organize manage and maintain the instructional facility equipment and resources.
- Maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site and regular work hours.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Comply with all district policies and procedures
- Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
- Journeyman License and/or Post-secondary Degree in Construction Trades and Valid
- Washington State Teaching Certificate
- Valid Washington State Drivers License
- OSHA 30 preferred
- Forklift certification preferred
- 1st Aid & Adult/Child CPR training (completed within 30 days from the date of hire and to be maintained for the duration of this job)
- Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Two years of experience in the construction trades or comparable industry.
- Working knowledge of current skilled trades concepts in Ironwork Masonry Carpentry
- Electrical and Fiberoptic Labor Craft Pipe trades and Sheet Metal tools equipment and materials.
- Experience managing and maintaining inventory of tools equipment and supplies
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of people in a high school learning environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a skilled trades instructional team
- Experience in diversity equity inclusion and social justice initiatives in industry and classroom settings.
- Ability to develop read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
- Ability to correctly and competently utilize and instruct others in various construction tools and equipment.
- Ability to hold students accountable for classroom expectations using positive engagement strategies.
- Ability to effectively meet the developmental needs of students
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
- Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date
- Ability to consistently perform a variety of specialized tasks including but not limited to: maintaining accurate records maintaining professional relationships with students and staff following through on tasks assigned arriving on time self-starter committed to ongoing professional development meeting schedules and deadlines establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships including proactive communication with administrators students parents community partners and school personnel.
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a
work area required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements experiences constant
interruptions and inflexible deadlines and must be able to stoop crouch crawl bend kneel
stand for periods of time and lift. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry
persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work
environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily
activity but will remain within acceptable ranges. Construction PPE is provided by RAP and is
required to be worn.
Evaluation:
The Director of Regional Apprenticeship Pathways shall periodically evaluate this position
according to the established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include
evaluating the employees performance of the above essential job functions and qualifications.
