The System Principal of Equitable Leadership Development is a co-developed role created in syncretism with the Hamilton-Wentworth Principals Council (HWPC). It is designed to respond to the identified need for enhanced support to Principals and Vice Principals while ensuring a continued focus on student improvement and well-being . The System Principal of Equitable Leadership Development will champion the implementation of the HWDSBs Leadership Strategy providing proactive responsive restorative and equity-informed Leadership support to Principals Vice Principals and other employee groups.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Equity & Student Achievement Leadership the System Principal of Equitable Leadership Development is a member of an interdisciplinary team of System Principals and Managers responsible for supporting the Boards Multi Year Strategic Plan specifically focused on the Leadership Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of sustainable leadership development programs / strategies aligned with HWDSBs Multi- Year Strategic Plan Board Improvement Plan and the Leadership Strategy .

  • Develop capacity within school administrators to lead equity and evidence-informed school improvement initiatives aligned to the HWDSB Multi- Year Strategic Plan.

  • Support school leaders to implement and monitor their School Improvement Plans through capacity-building approaches mentoring and coaching including but not limited to supporting appraisal processes and planning professional development both through professional development and on-site work with leaders in schools .

  • Support school leaders in identifying disrupting and addressing systemic barriers within school-based data policies and practices that perpetuate systemic oppression and harm to communities and individuals .

  • D evelop facilitate and oversee dynamic learning and leadership opportunities for a variety of staff groups.

  • Develop metrics to assess the effectiveness of leadership and staff development programs and make recommendations for future professional learning opportunities .

  • Work alongside multiple departments ( i.e. Human Resources) and leadership groups to support the Leadership needs of the organization.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate :

  • Lead as a Duty (OHRC) and Declaration (UNDRIP) Bearer and Pillar of the Palisade; centering the work of Human Rights Equity and Belonging and Restorative Indigenous Educational Wellness and Reconciliation.

  • Proven experience in educational leadership and staff development .

  • Strong understanding of HWDSBs Multi- Year Strategic Plan and commitment to its values and strategic directions.

  • Proven ability to coach facilitate communicate and problem-solve in complex school settings alongside Principals and Vice Principal colleagues.

  • Strong understanding of systemic inequities identity-affirming leadership and the factors contributing to opportunity and achievement gaps.

  • Experience with equity-centered instructional leadership including culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy (CRRP) critical inquiry and differentiated support structures.

  • Knowledge of anti-oppressive anti-racist and intersectional frameworks and the ability to support others in leading with these lenses.

  • Demonstrated success working on and leading collaborative teams.

  • Creativity innovation and adaptability in practice.

  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and a strong capacity to support colleagues.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

  • Excellent personal leadership resources .

  • Be able to work in multiple school settings and travel throughout the district providing Leadership Development.

A letter of interest is invited from Elementary and Secondary Principals for this position. Vice-Principals currently in the Elementary or Secondary Principal Pool are also eligible to apply . Deadline for submission is 4:00 p.m. on Friday June 27 2025 . Conversations regarding this position centering on the letter of interest will occur on Thursday July 3 and Friday July 4 .
