Job Description

PLEASE NOTE: THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL

Purpose Statement:

The job of Supervisor of Nutrition Services is done for the purpose/s of managing the food service activities at multiple sites to perform their functions in a safe and efficient manner; monitoring food services at all sites to assure that mandated nutritional needs of students are met; ensuring availability of quantities of items; providing written support to convey information; and complying with mandated health standards.

Essential Functions

  • Arranges food service agreements for non-production kitchen sites for the purpose of ensuring contracts are in place and maintaining documentation.
  • Attends educational workshops in-service training evaluation process etc. for the purpose of maintaining professional development obtaining and/or providing information and addressing issues.
  • Estimates food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste.
  • Formulates monthly menus for all direct service sites (e.g. receives draft menus makes changes approves menus recipes to production cooks etc.) for the purpose of ensuring nutritional needs are in compliance with USDA guidelines.
  • Implements menu plans (e.g. written recipe for menu items standardizing recipes etc.) for the purpose of meeting students mandated daily nutritional requirements.
  • Monitors nutritional information for children for the purpose of providing list of substitutions for food allergy concerns and ensuring approved menu changes are implemented for children as necessary.
  • Monitors production kitchen operations and records (e.g. reviews individual monthly records multiple inspections per year completes inspection report follow-up etc.) for the purpose of ensuring site is in compliance with program requirements.
  • Oversees the preparation cooking and serving of food and beverage items at production kitchen for the purpose of providing at sites and satellite kitchens that meets mandated nutritional requirements within budget and in accordance with health standards.
  • Prepares annual USDA application (e.g. USDA application and revisions disbursing USDA income statements verifying categories obtaining signatures study monthly enrollment information etc.) for the purpose of maintaining documentation as required by USDA.
  • Procures equipment and supplies (e.g. receives weekly orders places with food vendors order approvals etc.) for the purpose of maintaining an adequate inventory to provide nutritional services efficiently and within budget guidelines.
  • Provides training to staff (e.g. food preparation health standards sanitation methods etc.) for the purpose of addressing food service program requirements and complying with USDA requirements.
  • Supervises department staff for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving department objectives within budget.

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: USDA child adult food care program; quantity cooking; and safety practices and procedures.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and use basic job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department large work unit and/or across several small work units; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organizations services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting 30% walking and 20% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Experience

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Education

Bachelor Degree in related field of study preferred.
