Job Description

Overview

As of July 14 2025 the step 1 rate for pay grade 25 will be $30.92 per hour.

This position serves the radiological health objectives of Vermonters in the Environmental Health Division at the Vermont Department of Health. These include ensuring x-ray devices are registered and inspected that the use and storage of radioactive materials is safe and secure and that our staff can effectively respond to any radiological or nuclear incident in or near Vermont. The position develops and maintains capabilities in both the X-Ray and Radioactive Materials Programs so the work is diverse and professionally fulfilling.


It is vital that the Senior Radiological Health Specialist be skilled in information technology and is well organized. This helps us maintain important schedules fulfill federal recordkeeping requirements and report our work to the public. It is equally important that the position develops new skills stays informed of emerging radiological technologies and can qualify as a Radiological Operations Support Specialist (ROSS) in the event a radiological or nuclear emergency arises.
While a hybrid work schedule is possible the position will have some weekly in-person days as well as days in the field conducting inspections. The position works under the direction of the Radiological Sciences Program Chief.

The current salary range for this position is $29.87 - $46.84 per hour.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Masters degree or higher degree in science engineering occupational health radiological health environmental health or closely related field AND three (3) years or more of professional level experience in science engineering occupational health radiological health environmental health or closely related field INCLUDING two (2) years or more of experience in a formal program of radiological health.

OR

Bachelors degree in science engineering occupational health radiological health environmental health or closely related field AND five (5) years or more of professional level experience in science engineering occupational health radiological health environmental health or closely related field INCLUDING two (2) years or more of experience in a formal program of radiological health.

OR

Bachelors degree AND seven (7) years or more of professional level experience in science engineering occupational health radiological health environmental health or closely related field INCLUDING two (2) years or more in a formal program of radiological health.
