Thurston County Emergency Management is looking for a forward-thinking energetic and dedicated Emergency Management Coordinator to help us in building a safer more prepared region. This is more than a job its a chance to be at the heart of homeland security coordination across five diverse counties: Thurston Grays Harbor Lewis Mason and Pacific. Youll work with passionate professionals and regional partners to deliver real-world emergency preparedness strategic planning training and response coordination that directly protects our communities.
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:
- Support Regional Preparedness: Coordinate planning training equipment and exercises aligned with regional and federal homeland security priorities.
- Drive Strategy & Coordination: Assist in strategic planning efforts and facilitate working groups and subcommittees that guide Homeland Security Region 3s goals.
- Lead Training & Exercises: Plan and manage multi-jurisdictional exercises support local training needs and ensure federal compliance.
- Facilitate Communication: Build and sustain strong working relationships with response agencies tribes local governments and state/federal partners.
- Promote Community Preparedness: Represent Emergency Management at public events preparedness fairs and community meetings. Engage directly with residents at outreach booths share resources and educate the public on personal and household preparedness.
- Support Emergency Response: Serve in a rotational Duty Officer role and contribute to operational readiness for disaster response and recovery.
- Advance All-Hazards Planning: Provide direct technical support in emergency planning mutual aid agreements risk assessments and resilience strategies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Environment Work is conducted in an office environment and may be conducted in various field locations throughout the county. Lifting and carrying of materials equipment or other items weighing up to 50 lbs. may be required on a frequent basis.
- Schedule Monday Friday 7:00 am 4:00 pm (Incumbent may be required to work extended hours or non-standard work week).
- Travel Requirements Occasionally may need to attend meetings workshops and other trainings.
- Customer Interactions Daily interactions with staff partners and stakeholders (in-person email Microsoft Teams telephone).

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in business or public administration education industrial safety law enforcement or related field.
- Three years experience in the areas of emergency preparedness industrial safety public administration education adult training and exercise coordination curriculum design and development training and exercises in emergency management law enforcement fire service industrial safety public administration or closely related experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
- Ability to utilize a personal computer with applicable software to successfully perform essential functions of the position.
- Current Washington State Drivers License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
