Job Description

If you possess good computing web design editing coding communication and/or writing skills and want to add meaningful experience to your resume working in a dynamic environment then this is the position for you.

As our Office of Public Affairs Student Assistant you will provide the communications team with a student perspective on system communications and marketing. The primary focus is to assist with website and social media content creation including website updates page design and organization Search Engine Optimization ensuring digital accessibility preparing photos and images for web and social applications and assisting with office support including event planning and communications.

Assist in creating written and audio/video material including photography video newsletters flyers event schedules etc. proofread edit layout and modify documents. Create or assist with the creation development and maintenance of web and other electronic applications. Proofread and edit communications materials for grammar clarity and style. Coordinate and/or assist with communication activities and events. Assist with implementing short- and long-term communication plans and operations related to the Office of Public Affairs communication program. Maintain communications and related databases including obtaining entering retrieving and updating data.

To thrive in this role you will need to have basic computer skills including knowledge of computer operations such as word processing spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of one or more of the following computer operations: graphic photographic and desktop publishing software. Ability to design print multimedia Web and collateral material. Knowledge of digital accessibility principles and requirements is preferred but training will be provided.

You must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. The ability to write clearly and accurately and spell and punctuate properly. As well as the ability to follow applicable policies rules regulations and ethical practices. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups and to work successfully as a member of a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Having prior work experience in an office setting or experience with student government is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

You must be enrolled in the university system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or approval from the chancellor or the chancellors designee.

Position Details:

This is a part-time temporary student position starting pay is $14.10 per hour up to 20 hours per week while school is in session. Compensation is commensurate with experience and type of work assigned. Additional hours may be available during winter/summer breaks.

This position can be located on the Troth Yeddha Campus in Fairbanks or the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage. Positions will have flexible hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM with the opportunity for some hybrid work.
