We are seeking an experienced Android Developer to join our dynamic engineering team. Youll play a crucial role in developing and enhancing native Android applications used by millions of users across TEGNAs local media properties. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams shaping the user experience and driving technical excellence in our Android offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Design build and maintain high-performance reusable and reliable Android code using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers Designers QA and other engineering teams in an Agile environment
  • Integrate RESTful APIs to deliver seamless user experiences
  • Write and maintain unit and UI tests to ensure app reliability and code quality
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our CI/CD pipelines
  • Participate actively in sprint planning retrospectives and cross-team collaboration sessions
  • Monitor app performance using analytics and crash-reporting tools proactively addressing any issues
  • Help maintain code quality organization and automation effectively managing technical debt
Requirements:
  • 35 years of professional Android development experience building end user facing applications
  • Strong proficiency with Kotlin and familiarity with Jetpack Compose
  • Experience working with REST APIs and handling asynchronous operations
  • Solid understanding of Android architecture components and design patterns (e.g. MVVM)
  • Familiarity with automated testing (JUnit Espresso) and modern CI/CD practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills attention to detail and the ability to write clean maintainable code
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working in a cross-functional team environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with video playback streaming protocols (HLS) or advertising frameworks
  • Familiarity with advanced Android capabilities (e.g. Push Notifications deep linking)
  • Interest or experience mentoring junior developers
