JOB SUMMARY

The RN first assistant practices in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon during the intra-operative phase of the peri-operative experience and overall direction of the Assistant Manager OR Manager Director of Surgical Services and Vice President of Patient Care Services. Performs a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient.

JOB DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS

Type: PRN

Education

The First Assistant will possess one of the following credentials:

- Certified Surgical Technician and certification as a Surgical First Assistant.

- RNFA

- Physician Assistant and certification as a Surgical Assistant.

-Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and certification as a Surgical Assistant.

or

- Is a Certified Surgical Technician a Registered Nurse a Physician Assistant or aAdvanced Practice Registered Nurse and meets the requirements for acceptance in a surgical assistant certification program. Certification must be completed within 3 years of employment or granting of privileges. or

-Has at least one year experience as a surgical assistant at Saint Francis Medical Center prior to June 1 2015 has performed in at least 150 cases and has demonstrated competencies in all required job functions of the Surgical First Assistant.

Certification & Licensures

Licensed to practice in the State of Missouri.

Experience

-Handling tissue.

- Providing exposure.

- Using instruments.

- Suturing.

Providing hemostasis.
