Job Description


Policy and Coalition Partnerships Manager

Job Summary:

New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) has an immediate opening for a full-time Policy and Coalition Partnerships Manager to represent NMILC with advocacy organizations throughout the state co-lead policy campaign activities participate in community education efforts around the state with direct service partners and provide client legal service support for partners as needed. They will co-develop policy strategy draft relevant materialsincluding
advocacy letters press
statements fact sheets and testimonyand
plan and implement related events such as community advocacy days and listening sessions.

This position is meant for an individual who believes that systemic policy advocacy is community-led and driven and understands how to build and maintain high-trust community partnerships with a variety of stakeholders someone who exquisitely attends to movement and coalition dynamics who is compassionate and patient and who enjoys working directly with community members. NMILCs policy team is led by our Director of Policy and Coalition Building. This position will report directly to this Director and will also work closely with the Grants
Team and Legal Program Teams to support partnership relationships and policy initiatives.

Under the direction of the Director of Policy and Coalition Building this person is responsible for
representing NMILC with advocacy organizations lawmakers government bodies and other groups throughout the state and for strengthening and building alliances with strategic community partners. They will conduct
community outreach efforts around the state implement
surveys and evaluation tools and track and organize data gathered from advocacy and outreach efforts. This person will collaborate closely with local leaders and communities and work across NMILC teams to advance policy initiatives
in an integrated advocacy model.

The ideal candidate:

  • A seasoned advocate with a background in immigration law and a strong commitment to social justice and immigrant rights. Has at least one year of organizing campaign or advocacy experience (those with 3 years encouraged to apply). Familiar with New Mexican communities and experienced in working with clients preferably in a humanitarian immigration context. Centers and uplifts impacted community members stories. Willing to work long hours during the legislative session and occasionally travel statewide for events.
  • Ready to take on significant responsibility and autonomy in leading outreach education and policy campaigns. Highly organized self-directed and able to manage multiple projects meet deadlines and prioritize without needing close supervision. Maintains confidentiality and knows when to inform supervisors and team members of key developments.
  • Builds strong relationships with clients colleagues and external partners including government agencies and community organizations. Acts with courtesy patience and professionalism and is enthusiastic about representing NMILCs work. Skilled in public speaking presenting and creating clear persuasive written materials and graphics.
  • Thrives in collaborative settings and works well with diverse stakeholders and personalities. Experienced in coalition work and project management with a focus on motivating teams and achieving results. Highly responsive and effective at keeping group efforts on track.
  • A strategic systems-minded thinker who takes initiative and seeks efficiencies. Enjoys streamlining processes works quickly and accurately and has experience with databases and data tracking.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time
non-exempt position. Salary is competitive for our field and geographic area and is commensurate with experience. Starting pay for the Policy and Partnerships Manager position is $31.50/hour with upward adjustments for additional years of relevant policy experience.

NMILC currently offers a generous benefits package including:

  • 100% of Individual Employee Health Premium paid by NMILC for the Base Plan and 50% for dependents. Buy-up Plan also available.
  • Access to a 401K plan and discretionary employer match up to 10% of base salary (determined each fiscal year based on funding projections);
  • Optional Flexible Spending Account for pre-tax funds for medical and/or dependent care cost.


Benefits may be subject to change at any time based on changes to the organizations budget.

  • Flexible work schedule and hybrid remote work options;
  • 15 paid vacation days (3 weeks) annually;
  • 1 earned sick leave hour for every 30 hours worked;
  • Company-paid federal holidays in addition to 2 weeks of winter break 1 week for spring break and 1 week for summer break and other days as established in coordination with the local public school schedule.
