Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Communication Access the Staff Interpreter facilitates communication access by providing American sign language interpretation for Deaf and hard of hearing students faculty staff and/or visitors. Interpreting services are delivered primarily in the classroom or other university setting and in accordance with established schedules. The Staff Interpreter will assist with outreach initiatives related to Deafness and ASL interpreting and will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure proper campus-wide communication access. The role also supports the administration of the departments notetaking assistance program and assists with other administrative tasks upon request.

Substitution Statement: An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
Must have a Bachelors degree at least 3 years of related experience and hold current certification as an American sign language interpreter either through a MS QA (Level III) or equivalent national certification or other certification recognized by the State of Mississippi. A provisional QA Level III with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services Office on Deaf & Hard of Hearing (ODHH) may be acceptable with confirmation from ODHH. Must be registered or eligible for registration with ODHH within 30 days from date of hire. Proof of interpreter certification and/or registration with ODHH must be provided with the application.
