Job Summary:
- As part of the talented Fiberglass team you will specialize in the repair maintenance and construction of fiberglass structures on boats and other marine vessels.
- Examine boats and other marine vessels to identify damage or wear in fiberglass components. This includes assessing cracks blisters and structural weaknesses.
- Using various techniques to repair or restore damaged fiberglass including sanding patching and applying resin. This may involve filling cracks re-molding sections and smoothing surfaces.
- Overall a Marine Fiberglass Technician combines technical skills with craftsmanship to ensure the durability and aesthetic quality of fiberglass components in the marine industry.

Primary Responsibilities:
- The essential functions of a Fiberglass Technician are to perform repairs on damaged fiberglass by removing compromised areas applying new layers of fiberglass and using resins and other materials to restore structural integrity.
- Building new fiberglass parts or components as needed which may involve creating molds layering fiberglass and applying gel coats or other finishes. This can also include customs for modifications or upgrades.
Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however others can be developed along the way.

Required Qualifications:
- Operating specialized equipment (such as power sanders or rollers) and moving materials around requires both upper body strength and coordination. Some of these tools may cause strain when used continuously over long periods.
- Layer fiberglass mats or cloths with resin onto molds or surfaces ensuring even coverage and bonding. While shape and mold fiberglass components to the correct dimensions using specialized tools like rollers and brushes.
- Tasks like cutting fiberglass cloth applying resin and sanding down cured pieces can involve repetitive motion. Workers may be required to make many repeated movements with both hands arms or body leading to potential strain if not managed properly.
- Conduct thorough inspections of fiberglass structures on boats and marine vessels to detect and evaluate damage. Identify issues such as cracks blisters delamination and structural weaknesses.
- Prepare surfaces for fiberglass applications by cleaning sanding and priming. Apply finishing touches such as gel coat or paint to ensure a smooth durable and aesthetically pleasing surface.
- Follow all safety protocols and industry standards when handling materials like resins solvents and fiberglass. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that all procedures meet regulatory requirements. Follow all safety procedures including wearing protective gear (respirators gloves goggles) and ensuring a well-ventilated workspace.
- Carry out regular maintenance tasks to prevent future damage and ensure the longevity of fiberglass components. This includes inspecting signs of wear and proactively addressing potential issues.
- Maintain and clean tools equipment and workspaces to ensure safety and efficient operation.
- Address any unexpected challenges or issues that arise during repairs or fabrication. Use problem-solving skills to devise effective solutions and adapt techniques as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a specialized vocational training program or certification related to marine repair fiberglass technology or composites can be advantageous.
- Certifications from relevant marine or fiberglass industry organizations can enhance qualifications. Examples include certifications from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) or similar organizations.
- Previous experience working with fiberglass in a marine or related industry is highly preferred. Experience in repairing and fabricating fiberglass components on boats or other marine vessels is particularly valuable.
- Understanding of marine systems and structures including hulls decks and internal components.
The work can be monotonous at times and may require sustained focus attention to detail and patience. Keeping up morale and focus is important to ensure quality and prevent errors.

- Good physical condition to handle the demands of the job which may include long hours adverse weather conditions and physically demanding tasks.
- Specific observation abilities required by the job include close range detecting from a distance color identification depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Constantly works in non-A/C work area; the noise level can periodically be higher than normal; hearing protection may be required.
- Exposures encountered such as hazardous materials loud noise or extreme heat/cold.
- Needed physical requirements such as constantly positioning oneself for 10 hours at a time.
- The job involves significant physical activity including transporting heavy materials using power tools and performing tasks in awkward or confined spaces.
- Using personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves safety goggles respirators and coveralls to protect against chemicals dust and debris at any time.
- Work on boats and marine structures can involve working at heights or on elevated platforms. This would require ascending and descending safely in and out of the boats.
- Fiberglass products or raw materials can be heavy and bulky. Workers may need to lift and move fiberglass sheets rolls of cloth or finished parts weighing up to 50 lbs. This may also involve overhead lifting and carrying which requires good physical strength and stamina.
- Physical effort/moving such as sedentary - up to 10 pounds; light - up to 20 pounds; medium - up to 50 pounds; heavy - over 50 pounds.
Overall while the role of a Marine Fiberglass Technician can be physically demanding and sometimes challenging due to the work environment and conditions it is also a rewarding job for those who enjoy hands-on work and contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of marine vessels.
The anticipated pay range for this position is $20.00 hourly. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills relevant experience business needs and geographic location.
At Brunswick it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidates qualifications and the business context.
