Job Description

Job Title: Speech- Language Pathologist Assistant


Supervisor: Principals; Speech-Language Pathologist

FLSA: Non-Exempt


Terms of Employment: 185 days

Job Summary:
The primary purpose of the school-based Speech Language Pathology Assistant position is to provide treatment of students in a school setting (under the direction of supervising SLP) who demonstrate speech and language disability with the goal of helping them reach their maximum performance potential within an educational model of practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Speech and Language Pathology/Communication Sciences and Disorders and must meet clinical requirements to gain state licensure
  • Valid SC Licensure/Certification as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
  • Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
  • Ability to address a variety of speech/language deficits and ability to effectively meet developmental needs of students
  • Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices
  • Ability to adapt and modify techniques and materials for effectiveness as needed
  • Skills and abilities in organization time management and recordkeeping
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others and SLP Supervisor.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents students staff and administrators.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats with a variety of constituents.
  • Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Essential Duties

  • Administering and scoring screenings for clinical interpretation by the SLP
  • Assisting the SLP during the assessment of students (e.g. setting up the testing environment gathering and prepping materials taking notes as advised by the SLP etc)
  • Administering and scoring progress monitoring tools exclusive of clinical interpretation if (a) the SLPA meets the examiner requirements specified in the examiners manual and (b) the supervisor has verified the SLPAs competence in administration
  • Implementing documented Individualized education program IEP individualized family service plan IFSP) developed and directed by the supervising SLP
  • Providing direct therapy services addressing treatment goals developed by the supervising SLP to meet the needs of the student
  • Developing and implementing activities and materials for teaching and practice of skills to address the goals of the student per the IEP developed by the supervising SLP
  • Providing treatment through a variety of service delivery models (e.g. individual group classroom-based co-treatment with other disciplines) as directed by the supervising SLP
  • Providing services to students who are selected by the supervising SLP (when needed)
  • Documenting student performance (e.g. collecting data and calculating percentages for the SLP to use; preparing charts records and graphs) and reporting this information to the supervising SLP in a timely manner
  • Sharing objective information (e.g. accuracy in speech and language skills addressed participation in treatment response to treatment) regarding student performance to students teachers caregivers and other service providers without interpretation or recommendations as directed by the SLP
  • Providing training and technical assistance to students and families in the use of AAC devices
  • Developing low-tech AAC materials for students and assisting in the programming of AAC devices
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
