Job Description

SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Student Engagement leads the overall administrative functions mission and strategic direction for the following areas: Fraternity and Sorority Life Student Clubs and Organization and administration of Vector to oversee student compliance for Title IX and Hazing. This full-time 12-month position reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Engagement.

This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Advise governing councils (e.g. Panhellenic Council Inter-Greek Council and Order of Omega) and four NPC and NPHC sororities.
  • Establish and lead an FSL Advisory Board of faculty and staff to support fraternity and sorority life initiatives and programs.
  • Implement risk management programs including hazing prevention and alcohol-related training for organizations.
  • Develop leadership programs recruit and intake processes and community service initiatives for fraternity/sorority chapters.
  • Maintain relationships with alumni national headquarters and community stakeholders.
  • Manage Sorority Lodges including policies and logistical oversight.
  • Create detailed reports and records for all Greek-letter organizations monitoring compliance and progress.
  • Deliver one major program per semester that enhances the FSL communitys development and engagement.
  • Supervise and advise Registered Student Organizations and ensure compliance of all Queens state and national rules policies and procedures.
  • Provide monthly programming and trainings for student leaders in clubs and organizations.
  • Oversee the registration of clubs and organizations and maintain all records accordingly.
  • Promote and support the campus-wide initiative around evening and weekend programs to ensure educational or cultural dialogue to the community.
  • Oversee student compliance with Vector modules for Hazing and Title IX.
  • Supervise a Graduate Assistant.
  • Collaborate with Student Engagement on the planning and execution of summer orientation programs and fall welcome programs including ROAR Royal Kickoff and Weeks of Welcome.
  • Collaborate with Student Engagement to promote implement and sustain campus traditions that fosters students belonging.
  • Consistently serve as an advocate for diversity and cross-cultural understanding to create a welcoming campus for all students.

Experience Knowledge & Skills Preferred

  • Experience working with NPC IFC and NPHC organizations and national headquarters
  • Understanding of student development theory and its applications in education
  • Demonstrated experience in program development for diverse populations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as skill in presenting effectively to and facilitating group process
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to quickly establish and maintain strong rapport with campus constituents
  • Solid problem-solving skills critical thinking and the ability to analyze components and arrive at a logical course of action while knowing when to ask for assistance or direction
  • Demonstrated ability to develop learning outcomes and program assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office preferred including Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)
  • Understanding and proficiency with multiple social media platforms
  • High level of energy and initiative and willing and able to work with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a cooperative high-functioning team
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information and perform duties that require tact independent judgment diplomacy and discretion
  • Flexibility to regularly work evenings and weekends to achieve objectives of the position; ability and willingness to travel on behalf of the university including trips requiring overnight stays (<25% of time).
  • Masters degree preferred and 1 -2 years experience including graduate school experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
