The Audiology Technician under general direction conducts infant hearing screening tests to determine pass/fail result. Tracks test results and refers to the Audiologist as necessary. S/he assists audiologists with hearing aid/mold fittings repairs and patient education in relation to hearing aid care. S/he will be working with neonates and infants and entering test results into the hospital database. The Audiology Technician will have the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and development needs of this population.
Responsibilities
Care Management
* Performs hearing screening tests on newborns upon notification from nursery staff.
* Assist Audiologist with tracking and following up on newborns who refer from the newborn screening program.
* Collaborates with nursing staff medical providers audiologists and families.
* Follow up with babies that have failed newborn hearing screening to ensure appropriate audiology needs are met.
* Provides test results to families and refers families to speak to audiologist if further questions arise.
* Manages all aspects of hearing aid repairs.
* Reviews and coordinates screening supplies inventory and ensures resources for testing.
Data Integrity
* Correlates and provides screening data to audiologist for evaluation and interpretation of results.
* Identifies appropriate referrals and follow up with hospital staff and families as necessary.
* Documents all procedures hearing evaluations and referrals provided within the clients medical record and/or in the hospital database for documentation.
* Completes charges in a timely manner and according to proper procedures.
Patient Care and Education
* Reviews patients history and appropriate data prior to initiating evaluation.
* Follow up on patients needs.
* Supports audiologist on educating patients/families regarding use of hearing equipment.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
* If required for the position ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
* Meets productivity goals according to departmental standards.
* Attends 75% of department monthly meetings in a 12-month period.
* Responds to new orders promptly in compliance with department policy.
* Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments interventions EMR entries and patient responses.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Certification & Licensures
BLS (American Heart Association) certification- Required within 90 days of hire Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
Experience
Minimum 1 year experience in area of specialty- Preferred
