Sentara Health is currently recruiting for Registered Respiratory Therapiststo work at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in downtown Norfolk VA. This role is a PRN Rotating Shift position.

We are also the proud home of Nightingale the first hospital-based air ambulance in Virginia. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital includes Sentara Heart Hospital the areas first and only dedicated heart hospital. Within our variety of high-acuity highly specialized units we have nine ICUs (including burns neuro vascular cardiac general medicine and progressive ventilation).As a respiratory therapist at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital you will learn a multitude of advanced practices such as the use of esophageal balloon-guided ventilation advanced ventilator strategies including lung protective ventilation and monitoring of indices that have been proven to reduce ventilator induce lung injury (VILI). Our respiratory-driven protocols afford our therapists the ability to use all of the tools in their tool belts (use of APRV Volumetric Diffusive Respiration etc.). Our departments proactive approach is applauded and encourage by our physicians nurses and other colleagues. So we created a residency program to give new hires the tools and support they need to succeed. We train our therapists not only to be able to perform a task but the science and reason behind it. We encourage our therapists to be proactive think outside the box and ask understand the importance of balancing your home life with your work life too. So we provide self-scheduling to support our teams needs.

Required Qualifications:

Education

  • Associates or Bachelors degree required. Non degreed applicants with RRT credentials prior to January 1 2006 and graduates from a military RT program with RRT credentials will also be considered.

Certification/Licensure

  • State Respiratory license
  • NBRC RRT
  • BLS required at time of hire.
  • For new graduates only must have State license and BLS at time of hire and must obtain NBRC RRT within 6 months of hire date.

Experience

  • None required
  • 1 year Respiratory Care experience preferred

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital located in Norfolk VA is a 525-bed tertiary care facility that is home to the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads and also serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School.
