Engineering Lead, Currency Platform

We are seeking an Engineering Lead based in our London office offering a flexible combination of in-office and remote work. Lead one of the teams under Regional Platform Squad. We are one of the longest-running squads in the company building the platform for the core domains of Wise - Transfer Payout and Partner Integrations. Besides that we are supporting product teams to extend the Platform capabilities for the new products and the new markets.

Your teams responsibility will be to build product platforms and frameworks that will standardise and unify banking systems across the world under the Wise umbrella. Your teams goal is to build a universal interface that would combine all the complexities of regional payment integrations into a simple working solution. This solution will be used by all internal Wise products and external Wise partners. 

Managing payment integrations is just one side of the coin. Wise also holds a bunch of financial licenses in different countries. Those licenses provide our customers with different possibilities like sending money abroad holding money or investing into assets. You will take part in building a Product Eligibility framework that would link all the customers with all the products we can offer. 

How we work

We work in an agile fashion with engineers closely collaborating with the product manager and the analyst. The team operates across our Singapore and London offices. 

What will you be working on

Youll be joining Wise as an engineering lead for one of our autonomous teams. You and your team will be supported by the product manager. Your responsibilities will include:

• As an engineering lead you will be responsible for the quality of your teams technical solutions including code quality architecture applicability performance reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards.

• As a people manager you will be responsible for your teams productivity goal setting career path identification mentoring and supporting people in your team. Also youll make sure the team has the right size and mix of profiles. Decide when to hire. Think about the team organization and evolve the team when needed.

• You get things done

• You have experience working with large scale distributed systems

• You have years of Java 8 knowledge

• You have experience working with relational and non-relational databases query optimisation and designing schemas

• You have a strong product mindset and passion for customer experience you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points

• You enjoy collaborating with others and bringing people together to solve a problem

• You have experience in designing deploying and maintaining clean APIs

• You believe in and follow best coding practices code reviews and open feedback

• You enjoy writing testable code and believe in Test Driven Development

Nice to have: 

• You have experience with Spring boot

• You have experience with Kafka

• Experience building highly reliable and highly available systems
