None/Not RequiredShape the future of military avionics software.Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer to lead cross-functional engineering efforts within our Military Avionics Open Platform Application Software department. Based in Cedar Rapids Iowa this team works in an Agile environment to design and deliver open systems solutions aligned with the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) standards.
As a key leader in the department you will manage technical scope schedules and cross-functional collaboration for high-visibility programs that power navigation flight planning guidance and real-time hazard avoidance through solutions like the MFMS-1000 and ARR-7000.
What YOU will do:
Lead as a Subsystems Project Engineer representing the Flight Management and Controls department on major military aviation programs.
Manage project scope schedule budget risk and quality across all lifecycle phases.
Organize and communicate program resources technical updates and process changes to engineering teams and leadership.
Collaborate with other subsystem teams to resolve dependencies and drive integration.
Drive bidding and estimation efforts including scope definition risk identification resource planning and formal approvals using BidMaster Web (BMW).
Support technical decomposition of platform-level requirements into subsystem-level execution plans.
Investigate software issues replicate scenarios and facilitate resolution with development teams.
Lead verification efforts to ensure subsystems meet performance expectations.
Serve as a key point of contact for internal program leadership and external customers.
Mentor other project engineers and support onboarding for new engineers on assigned programs.

Qualifications YOU Must Have:
Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Strong experience in systems/software development avionics or similar domains
Ability to work extended hours or beyond a 40-hour work week when needed
Willingness to travel up to 20% (domestic/international)
Excellent communication and leadership skills

The salary range for this role is 101000 USD - 203000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
