Description

AMHC is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated full-time Peer Recovery Coach to join our team. In this role you will provide non-clinical peer-based support to individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). As someone with lived experience in recovery you will empower others on their personal recovery journey by offering support resources and hope in a respectful and non-judgmental environment.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Recovery-Based Support

  • Share your personal recovery story to inspire hope.
  • Demonstrate genuine belief in recovery and respect each individuals unique path.
  • Promote self-direction empowerment and personal growth.

2. Service Linkage & Support

  • Conduct Recovery Capital Assessments and develop personalized Wellness Plans.
  • Connect recoverees to treatment housing healthcare employment services and other critical resources.
  • Assist with appointment scheduling and when necessary provide transportation.

3. Engagement & Coaching Activities

  • Cultivate positive trusting relationships with recoverees.
  • Support emotional wellness and identify when additional intervention is needed.
  • Teach and model recovery tools like problem-solving coping strategies and self-care.
  • Participate in psycho-educational and skill-building groups (e.g. WRAP symptom management).

4. Advocacy & Education

  • Help recoverees articulate their needs and access resources.
  • Educate families and communities on recovery and stigma reduction.
  • Support agency training and awareness efforts around substance use and recovery.

5. Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work alongside behavioral health professionals law enforcement hospitals and recovery centers.
  • Document recovery support activities per agency guidelines.
  • Attend meetings training and stay compliant with agency policies and confidentiality standards.

Requirements
  1. This position requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  2. The individual must be in recovery for a minimum of one year and is willing to self-identify as a person in recovery; OR have lived experience such as living with a family member or friend with a substance use disorder.
  3. Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
  4. Be trained in the Recovery Coach Academy CCAR Model (Connecticut Community of Addiction Recovery) as well as CCAR Ethics training. Once training is completed a recovery coach will be required to register with the State of Maine as a registered recovery coach.
