Job Description

BVP is an intentionally diverse network of tuition-free public charter schools. As a founding member of the National Coalition of Diverse Charter Schools BVP offers a high-quality school choice to the families of Central Falls Cumberland Lincoln and Pawtucket.
The mission of Blackstone Valley Prep is to prepare every scholar to achieve their goals for college and the world beyond. BVPs scholars will graduate empowered as learners individuals and community members to access opportunities and break down barriers. Apart from academics we believe that preparing scholars for the world beyond also means experiencing the diversity of the world we live in today. Our network is designed to be diverse accepting students from the four communities that share a region but differ substantially in their socio-economic racial and ethnic demographics. High School Mentor The focus of this role will be to provide individualized support to high school scholar mentees such that 100% are achieving academic success by passing their courses and staying on track for an on-time graduation. Mentors will be responsible for multiple mentor groups within a structured mentoring program that runs similar to a full-time class within the school day. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Manage multiple mentor groups of 15 to 18 scholars each including through multiple hour-long blocks within the class schedule throughout the weekDevelop in scholars the discipline to self manage their school responsibilities by explicitly teaching habits of responsibility and self-management and providing resources for personal organization Consistently monitor scholars course grades and work completion coordinating additional support as necessary among scholars teachers the Special Populations Team the Scholar Support Team leadership families and othersPlan and implement structured community building activities including circles team builder activators restorative conversations and discussions of topics on current events community identity and diversity equity and inclusionSupport scholars in setting personal goals related to school and in monitoring progress toward those goals including building out Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and transitional goals for post-high school with other mentors as part of a High School Mentor Team to design and share best practices for the mentoring programCollaborate with other school teams to coordinate support for scholars including with the College and Career Team Scholar Support Team Special Populations Team Leadership Team and families. Qualified candidates will possess the following:Bachelors degree required in relevant fields (education youth development school counseling psychology etc.) Skills in building trusting relationships with high school students with diverse needs and backgroundsGood organizational skills and commitment to supporting students to develop those skills including navigating the learning management system their course work and the graduation plansCommitment and willingness to design and implement community building activities including circles team builder activators etc. as outlined aboveSkill communicating with parents and family members to keep them apprised of scholar progress and coordinate supportFlexibility in collaborating with other teams to implement a new and continually evolving vision for the mentor programAll applicable certification(s) in relevant fields CPI Certified The candidate for this role will have above all an unwavering commitment to creating a supportive community environment for our scholars while holding them accountable for academic success.
