As a Firearms Eligibility Analyst I in the Public Safety Services-Firearms Bureau within the Division of Justice Services under immediate supervisionActs as a call-taker receiving and responding to questions from Firearm Transfer Inquiry Program (FTIP) and Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) applicants card holders the general public law enforcement entities Federal Firearms License (FFLs) and attorneys concerning firearm eligibility and clarifying state and federal firearm statutes. Serves as a state of Illinois Point of contact representative for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and FFLs. Enters information into a database to create or update case files and requests archived files form the State Records and researches firearm purchasers criminal history using Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) Interstate Identification Index (III) National Crime Information Center (NCIC) National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to evaluate a subjects eligibility to acquire or possess firearms and makes decisions as to whether firearm may be released to the purchaser. Approves or denies the transfer requests and notifies the dealer of the outcome. Assesses criminal histories and research various state and federal statutes to determine the classification of criminal charges. Answers inbound phone calls and makes outbound phone calls to FFLs. Responds to email inquiries from FFLs. Emails FFLs regarding documentation received.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm
