Job Description
POSITION: School CounselorSY Opening
QUALIFICATIONS:Masters Degree in Counseling or related field; NH Department of Education Certification or Statement of Eligibility
SUMMARY:The guidance program at JBES follows the American School Counselor Association model supported by the NH Department of Education. The program is comprehensive in design offering classroom guidance lessons small group and individual counseling along with crisis intervention and a range of special programming. The school counselor manages 504 plans responds to bullying incidents coordinates with mental health agencies provides parent education and works closely with the Family Support Liaison and Principal to mitigate barriers to student success.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide weekly guidance lessons in classrooms and small group settings across grade levels. Classroom sessions are included in the Unified Arts schedule such as grade 6 substance abuse prevention lessons.
- Host responsive guidance groups based on needs that arise such as divorce grief communication with peers self-regulation or perspective-taking.
- Conduct regular check-ins with individual students to support academic and social success at school. Design interventions for students who need additional behavior support.
- Work with students and families to implement strategies for improving behavior and academic progress. This can include connecting students and families with outside counseling.
- Case manage 504 plans and participate on IEP teams as needed.
- Initiate reports of bullying and harassment in conjunction with the Principal.
- Participate as a member of the Unified Arts Team in projects schedules and events.
- Serve on school and SAU9 committees to provide input on policies procedures and decisions of the Bartlett district.
- Perform other duties as determined by the Principal.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:187 days per contract
COMPENSATION:In accordance with Bartlett Education Association (BEA) contract
