In the R&D Mechanical Engineering team we are responsible for the end-to-end design feasibility and development of high-volume products at Dexcom. We are seeking a driven and experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer 2 to join our dynamic team and contribute to the success of our New Product Introduction and On-Market Support initiatives.

As an R&D Mechanical Engineer 2 you will be in a high visibility high impact role both driving the design development and implementation of new products as well as providing ongoing support for existing on-market products. You will lead cross-functional discussions as the R&D Mechanical Engineering representative to ensure product quality reliability and performance while proactively driving continuous improvement efforts.

Where you come in:

  • You will create designs and be responsible for product testing and characterization for mechanical parts of moderate complexity for electromechanical medical device systems.

  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing quality and regulatory to resolve product issues and implement design changes.

  • You will lead and support root cause investigations leveraging various structured problem-solving methodologies along the way (e.g. DMAIC Fishbone Diagrams 5-Why).

  • You will perform moderate to high complexity calculations in activities related to product structure form fit and function supporting project requirements including tolerance stacks.

  • You will utilize statistical modeling and data analytics to drive decisions: developing statistical models for DOEs and interpreting results effectively utilizing statistical software such as Minitab and/or JMP.

  • You will design with awareness of high-volume manufacturing environment while focusing on cost reduction and evaluate/support material availability through deviation requests shipping constraints or other supply chain impacts.

  • You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support product advancements for quality reliability and scalability.

  • Provide recommendations to management on deliverables and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision and in accordance with schedule requirements.

What makes you successful:

  • You have strong experience in mechanical design and development particularly in a regulated industry such as medical devices taking the lead in all aspects of mechanical engineering.

  • You are proficient in CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks) and have a solid understanding of GD&T and DFM principles.

  • You have a deep understanding of various material properties and their applications (e.g. polymers metals)

  • You bring a meticulous problem-solving approach and are skilled in root cause analysis and risk assessment instinctively wanting to dig deeper on tough problems.

  • You have excellent communication skills and thrive in a collaborative cross-functional environment.

  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic environment to deliver mechanical engineering excellence aligned to the overall business needs.

  • Your proficiency in managing sustaining engineering projects ensures minimal disruption to product availability and performance.

  • You are detail-oriented and capable of managing documentation and change control processes effectively.

  • You have experience working with suppliers and contract manufacturers to implement design changes.

  • (Nice to have) You hold an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Education and Experience:

  • Typically requires a Bachelorsdegree in a technicaldiscipline and a minimum of2-5 years related experience orMasters degree and 0-2 yearsequivalent experience.
