Job Description

Overview

The Clinical Counselor Supervisor oversees the clinical service delivery at St. Josephs Recovery providing supervision to licensed counselors and interns. This role ensures that counseling services are trauma-informed culturally responsive and aligned with the programs abstinence-based family-centered approach. The Supervisor is responsible for maintaining clinical compliance with New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) and guiding staff in the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical supervision to counseling staff including individual and group supervision per NMAC standards.
  • Ensure clinical documentation meets all Medicaid CARF and state licensing requirements.
  • Facilitate weekly clinical case reviews and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Review and approve assessments treatment plans progress notes and discharge summaries.
  • Support the implementation of evidence-based practices such as the Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) Motivational Interviewing (MI) and 12-Step facilitation.
  • Lead trainings and staff development activities related to trauma-informed care co-occurring disorders parenting in recovery and documentation standards.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding mentorship and performance evaluations.
  • Participate in internal audits and corrective action planning.
  • Maintain a reduced caseload (as needed) to model best practices and support coverage gaps.
  • Serve as a liaison with external providers and referral sources regarding clinical coordination.
  • Uphold ethical standards and client confidentiality in all aspects of service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Education: Masters degree in Counseling Social Work Psychology or a related behavioral health field.
  • Licensure: Must hold a valid New Mexico independent license (LPCC LISW LMFT). LADAC may be considered with a supervisory designation and significant experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years post-licensure clinical experience and 12 years supervisory experience in a substance use or mental health treatment setting.
  • Certification: Clinical supervision designation or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Knowledge: Proficiency in ASAM criteria documentation standards and trauma-informed care. Familiarity with CRA peer recovery and wraparound models preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership clinical judgment organizational skills and the ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English/Spanish; experience working with underserved and culturally diverse populations.
