Job Description

Job Opening: Construction Manager (Mechanical Focus)

Location: Madison WI
Full-Time
Exempt Position Occasional Travel Required

About the Role

IKM is seeking a dynamic and experiencedConstruction Managerto lead our Construction Department with vision strategic direction and operational excellence. This role is responsible for overseeing HVAC and Plumbing operations ensuring alignment with company goals and driving performance across all key metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the construction team across HVAC and Plumbing disciplines.
  • Oversee branch financials for HVAC and plumbing departments including revenue gross margin cash flow billing and collections.
  • Drive strategic planning business development and operational improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety quality and regulatory standards.
  • Foster a culture of high performance accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align construction operations with company vision.
  • Manage subcontractor quality customer relationships and project bid selection.
  • Support hiring training and performance management in coordination with HR.
  • Monitor and report on Work In Progress (WIP) and other key performance indicators.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 10 years in construction or manufacturing leadership roles.
  • Proven track record in managing budgets teams and strategic initiatives.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelors degree in Operations Management Engineering or related field preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen with understanding of P&L and operating costs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant web applications.
  • Knowledge of construction law safety procedures and industry best practices.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • 90% office-based 10% field work at construction sites.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions job site environments and occasional loud noise.
  • Physical activity includes sitting typing climbing ladders and navigating uneven terrain.
