At the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) we support the people and movements working to defend and advance democratic values often where that work is under real threat. Our communications team doesnt just share updates. We connect the dots between frontline voices bold ideas and the policy spaces that need to hear them.
Were looking for a Deputy Communications Manager to help lead this work someone who understands the nuance of political communication knows how to turn complex realities into compelling content and is ready to step into a strategic visible role within our Brussels-based team.
This is a role for a strong communicator who can move comfortably between strategy and delivery; writing digital and events; team coordination and working closely with programme teams and partners across regions and thematic areas.
What Youll Do
Youll report to the Senior Communications Manager and serve as a lead member of the communications team. Your responsibilities will include:
Strategy Content & Knowledge
Lead on the EED communications strategy delivery including planning and content streams development for website social media email media outreach and other channels.
Work with programme teams to co-create dedicated communications and thought leadership plans and products and manage their delivery in a complex and rapidly changing environment of the EED areas of work.
Develop organisational level communication marketing and knowledge products and oversee their production including executive comms and the EED Annual Report.
Digital Strategy & Social Media
Shape and implement EEDs digital strategy from content streams and calendar to campaigns and multimedia.
Lead editorial direction and content development for EEDs website and social media platforms including multimedia (videos animation podcasts photography illustration).
Set and monitor KPIs and direct content audience and engagement improvements and growth across platforms.
Events & External Engagement
Lead design planning promotion and visibility for EED events both internal and external.
Ensure strong coordination across teams and partners to maximise visibility reach and engagement before during and after events.
Team Leadership & Oversight
Supervise trainees within the communications team and contribute to a collaborative empowering and high-performing work culture.
Act as liaison with external contractors and suppliers.
Step in to substitute for the Senior Communications Manager when requested.
What You Bring
You are:
Strategic and hands-on able to zoom in and out as needed.
Curious and proactive with a commitment to EEDs values and mission.
Wordsmith and storyteller can craft compelling messages from complex information.
Cool and collaborative comfortable working across teams in a fast-paced environment.
You have:
At least five years of full-time experience in strategic communications preferably in international affairs media civil society or EU public affairs.
A university degree in communications international affairs or a relevant field.
Near-native English.
Exceptional skills in writing editing digital and multimedia content creation.
Strong project management skills.
Strong understanding of the EU neighbourhood policy regional political contexts and discourses.
Bonus points for:
Fluency in another relevant language (Arabic Ukrainian Russian Turkish French Albanian Serbian etc.)
Work experience in a foundation or other grantmaking organisation.
