Job Description

Overview

The Life Safety Technician 3 coordinates repairs maintenance testing and inspections of all equipment designated as a Life Safety device as well as the training of personnel in the proper use and operation of Life Safety equipment. This position performs a variety of duties working with Engineering and Construction personnel on hospital projects as well as coordinates all required drills and evacuations including those necessitated by Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM). This position will complete and maintain all required documentation of Life Safety Systems components and assuring survey readiness at all times. This position will be responsible for mentoring Life Safety Technician 1 Life Safety Technician 2 and Field Technician 3 positions.

Responsibilities

Life Safety Operations
Develop implement and monitor compliance of Life Safety policies and procedures to provide a safe environment and reduce hazards.

Monitor potential and actual environmental hazards relating to Life Safety. Participate in root and apparent cause analysis and remedies of deficiencies.

Maintain continuous survey readiness through compliance with regulations from a number of regulatory agencies including The Joint Commission (TJC) the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and identified industry best management practices.

Perform weekly monthly quarterly semi-annual annual (or as needed) Life Safety inspections and testing necessary for compliance of all NAH facilities including off-site buildings. Maintain appropriate record keeping including electronic filing of all documents.

Schedule and conduct fire/evacuation drills and maintain appropriate record keeping.

Complete Work Order requests pertaining to Life Safety Systems and equipment for both repairs and preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot and diagnose problems and coordinate any repairs necessary with vendors or contractors or other related service providers. Document all related actions and repairs or resolutions and maintain appropriate record keeping and electronic filing.

Collaborate with vendors contractors NAH Construction Department all NAH Engineering Departments to determine Life Safety Standards and requirements for all construction projects for both Hospital and other NAH facilities.

Develop and implement education programs and materials to train staff to detect mitigate and avoid Life Safety related hazards. Provide technical guidance to management surveyors and other appropriate parties regarding Life Safety related deficiencies and achieving accreditation standards.

* Will be required to work various shifts to accomplish required tasks.

Life Safety Compliance
Maintain regulatory readiness documentation ensuring Life Safety systems are in compliance with regulatory standards and that any affected personnel are trained and ready for regulatory compliance inspections.

Participate in incident investigation to identify any contributing factors to determine how incidents might be prevented in the future.

Prepare reports on completed tasks including preventive maintenance ensuring compliance with all regulatory state and local agencies having jurisdiction.

Maintain current knowledge of all applicable codes regulations standards and accreditation requirements. Acquire any necessary training and certifications.

Train and update employees vendors and/or contractors on compliance requirements and Life Safety Systems and fire suppression equipment.

Compliance/Safety
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Trade school diploma or equivalent experience in Life Safety electrical systems mechanical engineering or directly related experience - Preferred
Formal training in NFPA 72/99 - Required
Certification & Licensures
Arizona Drivers License - valid with no moving violations in previous 39 months.
NFPA 101 Certification - Required
Experience
Minimum 7 years of experience in Fire and Life Safety within the healthcare industry.

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care.
