Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Transportation Support

  • Utilize expertise based on Hazmat certifications to provide direction in creation of Hazmat shipping documents in an accurate and timely manner
  • Act as Hazmat SME to support the safe timely and cost-effective transportation of Hazardous Materials by all modes in domestic and international lanes.
  • Track and report hazmat documentation exceptions associated shipments delays additional costs incurred and corrective actions taken

Storage Support

  • Prepare and maintain documents outlining the procedures for proper storage and handling of Hazardous Materials at all US and International stations
  • Determine if specified hazmat can be stored at Crane facilities by assessing applicable state and local regulations SDS review applicable OSHA/EPA Management Programs and building/fire/structure specifications

Training and Reference Support

  • Document and maintain a transportation procedure reference document that supports the safe and timely movement of all Hazardous Materials shipments domestically and internationally
  • Drive company hazmat training programs throughout the organization including performing training as necessary and conduct process improvements

Audit Support

  • Lead audit of programs and support needs
  • Arrange and authorize periodic compliance audits of Company hazmat policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Expertise and certification in 49 CFR IATA IMDG and USDOT code regulations expert to provide competent advice and counsel on matters related to the shipping and handling of hazardous material
  • Ability to analyze existing and pending regulations make recommendations then develop document implement and monitor compliance procedures
  • Highly organized results driven and is keen to grow expertise within their role
  • A strong communicator collaborating cross-functionally within the company to lead and drive an organized efficient and successful implementation of the hazmat program throughout the organization
  • Innovation meets challenges with resourcefulness
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication planning and organizational skills
  • Plans and carries out responsibilities with minimal direction

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Job may require extended sitting or standing use of standard office equipment
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Job may require presence on-site at the assigned work location

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in Hazardous Materials Management with management/technical emphasis
  • Minimum 5 years industry experience in the corporate environment third party service provider or as a consultant
  • Previous experience and demonstrated skills in a leadership or a supervisory role

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and/or Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP) preferred
