Under minimal supervision the Environmental Technician consolidates treats stores packs transports and/or disposes of hazardous waste in accordance with environmentally responsible and compliant practices policies and procedures. Maintain detailed and accurate records. They can follow instruction and work independently once proper training provided
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Segregate consolidation depacking and packaging of hazardous non-hazardous and universal wastes and off-spec materials for storage.
Assist in maintaining inventory and container storage of all waste types (hazardous non-hazardous and universal) and materials in accordance with applicable regulations policies practices and procedures.
Operate fork trucks and other mobile equipment to move waste and offspec product containers to and from storage and treatment areas and to load/unload trailers.
Complete required documentation accurately timely and legibly in accordance with applicable regulations and customer policies practices and procedures.
Consolidate and pour up hazardous and nonhazardous wastes per JSA without supervision
Identify improper segregation of waste to correct prior to storage and/or shipping
Can demonstrate knowledge of proper PPE for various wastes handled in SPAK and depack
Operate/signed off on forklift and rotator as well as other heavy equipment when properly trained
Operate/signed off on compactor
Operate/signed off on baler and change bales out safely/successfully
Operate/signed off on walk behind electric pallet jack
Correctly re-label received waste (hazardous nonhazardous and universal) per DOT regulations
Identify incorrect DOT labeling and correct without being instructed
Identify containers at receipt that require repacking per DOT regs and TSDF Part B permit
Medically cleared to wear a respirator
Demonstrates proper procedures for SAFE spill clean up
Prepare plant inventory scans without supervision
Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications :
Education and Technical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
One or more years related experience preferred
Demonstrates strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of Hazardous Materials and OSHA Regulations.
Demonstrates proficiency to operate a computer with Windows based programs (i.e. Excel and Word).
Demonstrates the ability to operate a powered industrial truck e.g. forklift and possesses safe driving record.
Skills (eg Project Management Financial Technical Operational Skills)
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Demonstrates the ability to listen to others either internally or externally and to respond effectively to ideas and questions.
Demonstrates the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written oral or schedule form.
Demonstrates the ability to operate various equipment throughout facility e.g. two-wheeled hand dolly conveyor system dock plate etc.
Demonstrates the ability to wear PPE properly and sustain a steady work pace over an entire shift.
Demonstrates the ability to be a problem solver and adapt to change quickly and effectively.
Demonstrates the ability to work with little or no supervision.
Demonstrates the ability to complete various paperwork requirements properly.
Demonstrates the ability to perform functions safely and productively and according to established policies and procedures.

Able to work with and influence internal and external customers
Ability to list other communication & leadership skills required
Solid communication problem-solving and leadership skills
Self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
Training:
Required training may include but not limited to the Clean Earth training program designed to ensure that facility personnel are able to respond effectively to emergencies by familiarizing them with emergency procedures emergency equipment and emergency systems including where applicable:
Procedures for using inspecting repairing and replacing facility emergency and monitoring equipment;
Communications or alarm systems;
Response to fires or explosions;
Response to ground-water contamination incidents; and
Shutdown of operations.
Employees that handle/manage hazardous materials/waste will receive initial and on-going refresher
emergency response training pursuant to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
regulations 29 CFR 1910.120.
