Job Description

SCOPE OF ROLE

The Cost & Tax Process Specialist is responsible for supervising the plants daily accounting and financial operations while providing direct support to the Plant Controller in the management of fixed assets cost accounting accounts payable VAT recovery tax compliance and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). This role is key to ensuring fiscal compliance balance sheet integrity continuous process improvement and effective use of financial technology tools. The position also plays an active role in internal controls and process documentation.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Accounting and Financial Management
  • Assist in the administration and control of:
    • Fixed Assets: asset capitalization and retirement depreciation physical inventory and reconciliation.
    • Cost Accounting: analysis of variances standard cost structures and actual costing.
    • Accounts Payable: invoice review reconciliation and end-to-end payment cycle control.
    • VAT Recovery: monitoring balances supporting refunds and tracking recoverable credits in compliance with Mexican tax law.
    • Tax Compliance: support in monthly and annual filings with authorities such as SAT IMSS INFONAVIT etc.
    • Analyze trends deviations and cost behavior to support strategic decision-making.
  • Month-End Closing and Internal Controls
    • Support month-end closing activities: reconciliations accruals and account reviews.
    • Prepare and supervise timely balance sheet reconciliations ensuring corrective actions are implemented when needed.
    • Identify assess and mitigate internal control risks.
    • Ensure proper documentation of key accounting processes and internal policies.
  • Fixed Asset Oversight
    • Maintain updated physical and accounting records of fixed assets.
    • Coordinate and validate physical inventory cycles and asset reconciliations.
    • Ensure accurate classification and depreciation under both accounting and tax standards.
  • Continuous Improvement & Process Standardization
    • Lead cost-reduction initiatives in collaboration with manufacturing and operations teams.
    • Promote automation efficiency and digitization of accounting and administrative processes.
    • Strengthen financial data accuracy through robust validations and audit-ready procedures.
    • Document and standardize operational workflows and accounting practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure timely and accurate submission of regulatory reports to authorities such as INEGI the Ministry of Economy and others.
    • Support internal external and tax audits by preparing and providing required documentation and reconciliations.

Qualifications :

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.

  • English proficiency

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in similar roles preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Solid knowledge of general accounting cost accounting fixed assets tax compliance and financial closings.

  • Proficient in Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF) local tax regulations and internal control practices.

  • High attention to detail with strong focus on data accuracy and process integrity.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing environment including walking through production areas as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and guide accounting support staff ensuring timely accurate and high-quality work.

  • Lead onboarding cross-training and continuous development of team members while reinforcing financial policies and procedures.

  • Conduct performance evaluations provide coaching and feedback and manage task assignments aligned with team and plant goals.

  • Promote a collaborative and accountable work culture encouraging problem-solving initiative and ownership within the finance team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERENCES

  • Additional certifications or training in taxation or corporate finance are a plus.

  • Experience working with accounting and ERP systems such as ASPEL COI ASPEL SAE APSI or Magic.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel including pivot tables financial functions and data validation tools.

  • Familiarity with regulatory filings and government reporting requirements (INEGI Ministry of Economy SAT).

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
