RESPONSIBILITIES:Under direction of authorized administrators shall:
- Teach skills knowledge and scientific attitudes through courses in chemistry or science problems to secondary pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Plans a science program involving demonstrations lectures discussions and student experiments; organized laboratory activities for optimal learning.
- Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus experiments and standard or teacher-prepared charts sketches and other instructional aids.
- Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects or experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
- Instruct pupils in proper use care and safe handling of chemicals science equipment and plant and animal life.
- Establish and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate each pupils progress in scientific knowledge and skills.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by administrative regulations.
- Supervise pupils in out of classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education.
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids science equipment chemicals and supplies and maintains inventory records as required.
- Work cooperatively with all aspects of the school administrative team/faculty and citizens to insure the highest quality of educational programs.
- Supervises pupils in out of classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Cooperates with school administration in providing science displays and programs for the school and community and in sponsoring science activities.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
REPORTS TO: Building PrincipalThe salary and terms of employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield Public Schools Unit A salary schedule. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as on this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Westfield School Committees policy on evaluation.
