Job Description

Databricks is looking for a talented and experienced Legal Counsel to join our expanding Legal team to support and navigate rapidly evolving global privacy laws and regulations. This position will report to our Director & Assistant General Counsel Privacy. As a member of the Privacy team you will provide legal counsel to several business partners as well as support the privacy compliance program for Databricks.

You will be agile highly organized and have the skills drive and flexibility to support and accelerate a leading technology company addressing cutting-edge legal issues and organizational challenges. A successful candidate will be a resourceful self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and excellent at building strong relationships.

The impact you will have:

  • Advisory Role. Advise cross-functional stakeholders on potential privacy risks and regulatory requirements including Technology Security and People Teams.
  • Privacy Program Compliance. Provide guidance to support further development implementation and maintenance of the Databricks privacy program including data subject rights requests data inventory privacy by design policies and help operate and improve the effectiveness of critical privacy compliance processes
  • Contract Negotiation and Transactions. Counsel and advise on data protection-related provisions in commercial contracts including updating templates for and negotiating data processing addendums and business associate agreements.
  • Privacy by Design and Risk Assessments. Advise business units on privacy legal considerations for new systems features and system updates
  • Policy Development. Develop review and update privacy policies programs and procedures to align with legal requirements and best practices
  • Regulatory Analysis. Research and evaluate the applicability and impact of global privacy laws legislation and regulatory guidance on new business initiatives and processes.
  • Training/Cross Functional Collaboration. Build cross-functional relationships with business teams as well as other internal stakeholders. Provide strategic and timely client training on relevant issues and processes to ensure ongoing privacy compliance.

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5 years of experience at a nationally-recognized law firm in-house legal department or a combination of both
  • Ideally 3 or more years specializing in privacy legal
  • Deep understanding of cloud and software technology and a strong desire to work on legal issues in these areas
  • Experience working for a company offering platform services to business customers is a plus
  • J.D. from a top-tier law school
  • Member of a state bar in good standing
  • You can build strong and deep working relationships with internal stakeholders over multiple geographical locations.
  • You are able to understand challenging issues assess risk and provide concise actionable business-focused legal advice and counsel.
  • You can coordinate prioritize and manage deadlines workflow and execute in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
  • You are a self-starter with the capability to operate independently and to interact confidently with senior management when required.
  • You have a strong work ethic excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage many cross-functional projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
