Job Description

Project Art at University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a creative and dynamic individual to serve as the Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator. Public engagement through temporary art exhibitions and performing arts events plays a significant role in supporting wellness and the overall experiences of patients and visitors at UI Health Care as well as the faculty and staff who work here. The Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator position relies heavily on effective communication and honed interpersonal skills. This individual will partner with a wide range of departments and groups within the hospital across the University of Iowa and with artists and performers throughout the Midwest.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and execute the UI Health Care Temporary Art Exhibition Program by curating a minimum of 18 rotating exhibitions annually: identify and schedule exhibiting artists manage exhibition contracts coordinate art deliveries or artwork shipping complete artwork unpacking and repacking write exhibit educational labels and object identification labels install exhibitions complete marketing materials and identify collaborative opportunities with artists and the larger campus community.

o Partner with curriculum leadership at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine to integrate temporary exhibitions into the medical student experience.

  • Coordinate and execute the UI Health Care Performing Arts Program by managing a minimum of 15 musical performances annually across hospitals facilities: identify and schedule performing artists track internal committee budgets and donation accounts earmarked for performing arts programming complete marketing materials act as on-site liaison during performances and identify collaborative opportunities with artists and the larger campus community.

o Partner with UI Health Care Week committee and UI Health Care Holiday committee for seasonal musical performances.

o Partner with Hancher Auditorium the University of Iowa School of Music West Music and the Richard E. Kerber Endowment for collaborative musical performances by national and international artists.

  • Develop content for and manage Project Arts website and social media platforms.
  • Assist with artwork installation for all UI Health Care Capital Management construction and renovation projects as well as individual departmental artwork requests.
  • Contribute to collections inventory and collections care initiatives: specifically photographing and editing images for the PastPerfect collections management database.
  • Research write design and produce informative educational panels for the Art Notes program across hospital facilities and prepare public educational resource documents.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • B.A. in Art Art History Museum Studies or a related field
  • 1 to 2 years of art installation experience in an art gallery museum or similar setting
  • 1 to 2 years of experience organizing public events
  • Strong organization written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop Illustrator and/or InDesign
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite: Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with power tools and artwork installation methodologies
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently

Desired Qualifications

  • M.F.A. or M.A. in Studio Art Art History Museum Studies or a related field
  • Knowledge of the local and regional art scene
  • Knowledge of contemporary art art practices and terminology
