Job Description

Department Information


Applications will be considered from residents and non-residents of Colorado.

This is a paidtemporary position limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire.

Hourly Pay: $25.17/hourly with an opportunity for overtime.
Typical Schedule:4-day work schedule Monday - Thursday from 6:30p to 5:00p (subject to change based on department needs).

In addition to being a fantastic place to work CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked capped at 48 hours.


This position is not covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

What You Will Do
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a General Labor temporary employee to assist our traffic signal and lighting road maintenance crew in our Colorado Springs location. Under supervision this position assists skilled licensed electricians with the installation repair and maintenance of Traffic Signals Electrical Systems Highway Lighting Warning Beacons Interconnect Communications Variable Message Signs ITS devices and CDOT buildings and grounds within Colorado Springs.

Major duties and responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:


What CDOT Provides
  • Personal protective equipment such as uniforms boots hard hats gloves safety vest respirator and tools
  • CPR and first-aid training
  • Variety of career training opportunities
  • 40-hour work weeks with opportunity for overtime during weather emergencies

Work Environment
  • Required to work on ladders and/or bucket trucks at heights from 10-80 feet.
  • Occasional in-state/overnight travel.
  • Frequent travel during work day for training meetings and assigned work orders.
  • Required to drive CDOT vehicles.
  • Work around live electric gas water and other utility lines.
  • Exposure to loud noises.
  • Exposure to fumes odors gases dusts etc. that may affect breathing eyes and skin.
  • Exposure to High Voltage (anything over 600 V) and electrical shock.
  • Required to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for long periods of time - hot and cold.
  • Required to use computers to accomplish everyday work duties.
  • Due to locations of some of the equipment must be physically able to work at 11000 feet altitude.
  • Must be able to read understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Required to operate CDOT vehicles.

  • Must possess and maintain a current valid drivers license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace criminal records check public court records check educational records and driving records checks. More information in the supplemental information section.
  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.
  • Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purposes of responding to an emergency.
