Job Summary

Bellevue Parks and Community Services is hiring to fill Golf Course Maintenance Staff 2 (Maintenance Aide 2) positions.

Employee will receive direct supervision while on the job site. The amount of direct supervision required may diminish as proficiency in task performance and equipment operation increases. Employee may work independently on the basis of clear instructions. The position will perform a variety of manual labor tasks in assistance to fully-trained personnel to repair maintain operate and install basic City or park infrastructure systems and/or support events or activities. Work consists of routine and repetitive tasks processes and/or operations and will be performed cooperatively with other employees and completed in a manner that assures individual co-worker and public safety in all weather and working conditions. Work is to be completed with appropriate efficiency and in a manner that commands the respect of or demonstrates appropriate courtesy to co-workers and the public.

Hours: Shifts may vary normal work hours are M-F 5:00am-1:30pm Sat-Sun 5:00am-9:00am

Union Position (Teamsters Local Union No. 763): After initial 2 months of continuous employment or within the month following the first day of rehire employee will become a bargaining unit member and pay monthly union dues (current rate is 2.25 times their hourly rate of pay) and initiation dues as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
Once an employee at the maintenance aide 1 level is able to independently perform all the tasks and duties associated with his/her assignment and has obtained any necessary certification it is possible for the incumbent to be eligible for movement to maintenance aide 2 depending on the complexity of the assignment nature of the work and how much prior experience the incumbent has with the city in the same assignment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists full-time employees with golf course maintenance operations including mowing edging blowing line trimming weeding and trash and debris removal.
  • Removal of invasive species pruning and manual vegetation control.
  • Work around golfers and the general public.
  • Work with city staff and pro shop staff on a daily basis.
  • General outdoor golf course maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Exposure/experience adhering to safety rules and procedures is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of and familiarity with hand-held power tools and related maintenance equipment.
  • Basic mechanical skills and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to learn to operate safely the equipment and machinery necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to listen and understand direction/instruction communicates with team members and responds to customers tactfully and courteously.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Criminal History check required on all applicants.

  • Work involves walking talking hearing using hands to handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to push pull lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
  • Exposure may include traffic fumes chemicals flying debris noise. Employees with exposure will be required to provide and wear leather steel-toed or equivalent protective footwear (ANSI approved).
  • Employee must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions and provide weather-related gear if/as needed such as rain gear and/or coat. Employees must provide and wear work clothing appropriate to their duties. Some tasks require a long-sleeved shirt.
