The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Subsistence is recruiting for a Subsistence Resource Specialist 2/3 located in Anchorage!
What you will be doing:
The Department of Fish and Game Division of Subsistence is looking for a Subsistence Resource Specialist 3 to join our dynamic social science research team. This is a permanent full-time position that will lead Southern Region subsistence research projects. The incumbent will be responsible for the development planning implementation and reporting on the human dimensions of subsistence activities and regulations in southwest Alaska. This work involves fieldwork in remote communities; research topics include the harvest and use of salmon and nonsalmon fisheries large land mammals marine mammals and vegetation and the documentation of traditional knowledge. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Program Manager and in coordination with other Subsistence Resource Specialists to ensure quality and timely completion of priority tasks. The incumbent will also research prepare and present materials for regulatory review and will on occasion support the divisions field research in other parts of the state.

The working conditions you can expect:
This position is located in the Anchorage ADF&G regional office (333 Raspberry Road). The incumbent will regularly interact with members of the public in a research capacity by coordinating with rural communities to plan implement and review research and conducting fieldwork to collect harvest or traditional knowledge data. Additionally the incumbent will regularly interact with colleagues at ADF&G or other agencies regarding the management of Alaskas subsistence resources. The office environment has a focus on collaborative problem-solving. Fieldwork typically requires travel in small planes and boats away from the duty station for 1-2 weeks at a time multiple times per year.

Special Note:

Subsistence Resource Specialist 2
A Bachelors degree in anthropology sociology geography or a closely related field.
AND
One year of experience performing professional subsistence resource research at the entry level. This experience is equivalent to Subsistence Resource Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska.
Special Note:
Research may be on subsistence issues for baseline studies of resource use the impact of regional industrial growth on subsistence uses or the development of fishing and hunting regulations.
Subsistence Resource Specialist 3
A Bachelors degree in anthropology sociology geography or closely related field.
AND
Three years of professional experience performing subsistence studies and/or research including two years at the journey level. This specific experience is equivalent to a Subsistence Resource Specialist 2 with the State of Alaska.
Substitution: A Masters degree as described above will substitute for one year of the nonspecific experience.
Special Note:
Research may address subsistence issues baseline studies of wildlife uses the impact of regional and industrial growth on subsistence uses and the development of fish and hunting regulations.

Flexible Staffing
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidates eligibility. If hired at the lower level you will be promoted to the higher-level job class after completing the training plan and meeting the minimum qualifications. The division is looking to hire at the Subsistence Resource Specialist 3 position.
