Job Description

Position:

Speech/Language Pathologist Extended Term Substitute

Office of Student Services/Graham & Parks School

The Office of Student Services (OSS) is responsible for providing a wide variety of services to CPS students with special needs to ensure equitable access and support for all including those who are advanced or twice-exceptional learners.

Duties:

  • Adhere to established rules regulations laws and appropriate ethical standards when conducting speech and language screenings and evaluations.
  • Administer formal and informal assessments including observing students in educational environments selecting appropriate assessments based on individual student needs and administering tests according to acceptable procedures.
  • Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services by integrating data from a variety of assessment techniques and sources.
  • Prepare write and submit evaluation reports that meet state requirements and appropriately convey information to parents and school teams in language that is clear and easily understood.
  • Determine the effects of the students impairment in regard to accessing the general curriculum.
  • Collect data for IEP planning decision making and progress monitoring.
  • Maintain easily accessible and accurate files and safeguard confidentiality of student records.
  • Schedule direct services using a variety of service delivery models including classroom intervention consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Plan and use systematic and evidence-based intervention strategies for individual students and groups of students to foster communicative competence. Modify therapeutic instructional approaches as needed.
  • Complete logging of services for third party reimbursement accurately and in a timely manner as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with school personnel such as teachers administrators and other related service providers to best meet the needs of all students.
  • Provide information to school personnel about language disorders as they relate to literacy and interactive communication skills information about speech disorders (articulation voice and fluency) and their impact on communication and learning.
  • Use appropriate therapy materials to meet the needs age cultural differences and interests of individual students and arranges therapy environment to create optimum learning conditions.
  • Attend reconvened Team meetings and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Develop appropriate IEPs and/or 504 Plans based on students strengths & needs and demonstrates awareness of professional performance in due process matters and litigious environments.
  • Chair team meetings and participate collaboratively with multi-disciplinary educational teams to develop Individualized Education programs (IEPs) write measurable goals and objectives and complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Plan coordinate and conduct educational trainings for staff parents and students.
  • Participate in professional meetings and workshops directly related to the speech-language-hearing profession.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Please note that the location may change as required to meet staffing and student needs.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Speech/Language Pathologistyou will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Speech & Language Pathology from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Massachusetts Certification and/or License preferred.
  • ASHA Certification preferred.
  • Experience teaching and/or working in an urban school system with special needs students.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with (AAC) Augmentative & Alternative Communication (moderate to high technology).
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs).
