Job Description
Overview
The Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) of English plays a pivotal role in shaping the linguistic literary and analytical skills of students at the senior secondary level within the educational institution. As a key educator the PGT English is responsible for providing a robust curriculum that enhances the students understanding and appreciation of the English language literature and composition. The role encompasses not just teaching but also inspiring students to develop critical thinking skills and a lifelong love for reading and writing. The PGT English should create an engaging classroom environment while strategically planning lessons that align with educational standards. Furthermore he/she fosters a nurturing space that encourages student participation discussion and creative expression thereby contributing significantly to overall student development and academic excellence. The PGT English collaborates with fellow educators and participates in school initiatives actively contributing to a well-rounded educational experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive English language and literature curricula.
- Design lesson plans that incorporate different teaching methods to engage students.
- Conduct classroom sessions that promote critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Assess student performance through a variety of evaluative tools.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to enhance their learning experience.
- Encourage a love for reading through various literary genres and themes.
- Facilitate discussions and debates on literary topics and current events.
- Integrate technology effectively in lessons to enhance learning outcomes.
- Organize and oversee extracurricular activities related to English literature.
- Collaborate with other teachers to foster interdisciplinary learning.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and classroom activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance metrics.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on educational best practices.
- Mentor students for projects competitions and public speaking opportunities.
- Support students with diverse learning needs through differentiated instruction.
Required Qualifications
- Master s degree in English Literature Education or a related field.
- Bachelor s degree in Education is preferred.
- Proven experience as a teacher of English at the secondary or senior secondary level.
- Strong knowledge of English literature and language including various genres.
- Familiarity with current educational technology and platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to build rapport with students and inspire them academically.
- Experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
- Strong commitment to student-centered learning and teaching philosophy.
- Knowledge of assessment tools and instructional strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Passion for teaching and a dedication to students success.
- Familiarity with educational standards and compliance regulations.
- Willingness to participate in school events and extracurricular activities.
- Certifications in relevant areas (e.g. teaching certifications) are a plus.
