MalaceHR is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer to lead and manage critical engineering operations in a high-availability data center environment. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise across HVAC electrical plumbing and life safety systems as well as proven leadership skills to direct engineering staff and maintain peak operational efficiency in mission-critical environments.
Manage and supervise daily engineering operations including scheduling payroll and performance.
Maintain adherence to safety and compliance regulations (e.g. fire environmental life safety).
Coordinate and oversee capital improvements tenant construction and critical infrastructure upgrades.
Monitor and inspect building systems (HVAC electrical plumbing automation).
Ensure timely preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
Maintain accurate logbooks and documentation of system operations and incidents.
Assist in developing and managing annual expense and capital budgets.
Track and manage operational costs including justification for overtime and vendor services.
Source and evaluate vendors; ensure competitive bidding practices for service contracts and capital projects.
Enforce compliance with local state and federal codes and standards (NFPA EPA OSHA etc..
Conduct and coordinate fire drills safety training and emergency response protocols.
Lead initiatives to reduce fire environmental and workplace hazards.
Lead installation projects and upgrades that enhance facility value and operational efficiency.
Apply energy management strategies to minimize utility costs.
Collaborate with contractors and engineers to integrate automation systems into facility infrastructure.
Directly supervise Operating Engineers.
Conduct hiring onboarding and training.
Handle performance evaluations disciplinary actions and conflict resolution.
Two-year technical degree in HVAC or related field.
EPA 608 Certification (Required)
NFPA70E Training (Required)
7 10 years of hands-on engineering experience in critical facilities (preferably JLL or equivalent).
3 5 years in a supervisory or Assistant Chief Engineer role.
Proficient in HVAC electrical plumbing and automation systems.
Strong understanding of building codes and technical documentation.
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook Access).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to walk climb kneel bend and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Comfortable working at heights and using ladders (up to 30 ft 300-lb capacity).
Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and emergency call-ins.
