Job Description

The Special Assistant for Strategic Student Initiatives is responsible for leading high-impact projects and strategic initiatives across the Division of Student Affairs that are aligned with institutional goals and responsive to the evolving needs of FMU students. This includes spearheading student-focused programs driving divisional assessment supporting enrollment outreach and enhancing operational effectiveness. The Director collaborates broadly across departments and disciplines to ensure a vibrant inclusive and high-quality student experience. This customer-centric role is responsible for delivering excellent service support to meet the needs of our university community. Demonstrates the professionalism needed to handle sensitive and confidential matters. The individual is a member of the Division of Student Affairs staff reporting to Vice President.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the planning logistics and execution of strategic efforts to market enroll retain and graduate a diverse student body.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of student-centered strategic initiatives that elevate the overall student experience enhance engagement and promote persistence and success.
  • Lead the execution of high-priority and responsive programs that meet the changing needs of the student community.
  • Align initiatives with institutional mission values and strategic priorities focused on student life inclusion and holistic development.
  • Translate vision into actionable plans with defined outcomes metrics and timelines.
  • Lead and coordinate assessment efforts across the Division of Student Affairs to measure program impact and student learning outcomes.
  • Develop tools and systems for data collection analysis and reporting that inform decision-making and elevate program quality.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism initiative resourcefulness and personal accountability.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information protect the assets of the institution act ethically and with integrity and adhere to FMUs Code of Conduct and policies and procedures.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication (oral and written) organizational and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Manage prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Ability to pivot during changing times such as Covid and other unexpected changes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend hours as required.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
