Summary: The Field Service Technician is responsible for delivering demand and scheduled field service warranty service and system start-up to existing and new Oilgear customers worldwide. The role involves analyzing component and system malfunctions supporting customer efforts to repair or implementing repairs personally to get equipment functioning. Service activities will primarily focus on Oilgear legacy and new products as well as some non-Oilgear equipment. This position involves regular engagement with Oilgear hydraulic and electrical engineering teams to provide customer support and offer feedback that contributes to quality and design improvements. Additionally the technician will promote the sale of Oilgear upgrades to both existing and competitive installations within our customer base.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Travel to customer sites to provide service for hydraulic/electrical equipment as requested; optional international travel.
- Diagnose problems with customer equipment and work with relevant departments to provide timely and efficient solutions.
- Operate computer-based diagnostic equipment for hydraulic and electronic systems.
- Develop service reports and other documentation. Complete maintain and process required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Understand the functionality and internal operations of hydraulic systems including variable servo-controlled pumps fixed displacement pumps proportional valves and solenoid valves in order to diagnose and troubleshoot potential issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to hydraulic systems ensuring proper functionality.
- Read interpret and troubleshoot from hydraulic schematics to diagnose and repair equipment efficiently.
- Communicate with customers to help them understand how to properly use Oilgear products.
- Participate in or conduct customer training to facilitate the customer education process.
- Stay informed about new technology developments and procedures within the hydraulics industry.
- Review customer installations to identify opportunities for upgrades and improvements.
- Provide feedback to engineers regarding technical issues encountered by customers helping to improve overall quality and customer satisfaction.
- Travel and/or work in Oilgear facilities/shops as needed in addition to customer site visits to support operations.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical/electrical experience required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience and understanding of hydraulically operated machinery specifically in service analysis and troubleshooting.
- Ability to understand and troubleshoot complex hydraulic systems including hydraulic pumps valves and systems.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and basic electrical drawings.
- Strong communication skills to resolve technically challenging problems with customers and internal Oilgear support teams.
- Effective listening skills to act as the Voice of the Customer and provide feedback to improve customer satisfaction.
- Ability to travel up to 75% (required domestic and optional international).
- Valid drivers license.
- Successful completion of a background check drug screening and driving record check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluid power technology or related educational background.
- Experience with variable servo-controlled pumps fixed displacement pumps proportional valves and solenoid valves.
- Familiarity with open or closed die forging aluminum extrusion or forming presses.
- Experience with Rockwell software including RSLogix500 RSLogix5 RSLogix5000 Studio 5000 FactoryTalk ME and SE.
- Experience with Rockwell PLCs including SLC500 and PLC5 and the ability to convert legacy systems to modern platforms.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
- Some work performed in a non-air-conditioned shop environment.
- Ability to work in harsh environments including rain snow heat and with heights.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Exposure to noise dust odors and fumes in a shop environment.
- Bending stooping sitting standing walking and climbing fixed ladders staircases or man lifts to heights greater than 10 feet.
Training Requirements:
- General safety training.
- Safety training as required by customers.
- ISO 9001 and applicable processes and procedures.
- Forklift certification.
- Overhead crane certification.
- Lockout/tagout training.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
