POSITION
Program Assistant (Zero-Waste Knowledge Management Intern)
CONTEXT
The mission of the McGill Office of Sustainability (MOOS) is to create a culture of sustainability at McGill. MOOS aims to identify connect and enhance efforts to incorporate principles of sustainability (ecological social and economic) into all areas of the University. We provide the institutional memory and knowledge the network of partnerships the framework for sustainability at McGill (Climate & Sustainability Strategy) and the seed funding (Sustainability Projects Fund) to facilitate the sustainability efforts of students faculty and staff.
Among its five long-term commitments McGill aims to become zero-waste by 2035 by attaining a diversion rate of 90 percent based on the internationally recognized standard. To achieve this target the McGill community will have to make changes to campus waste infrastructure and supply chains while also bolstering education and engagement initiatives.

DUTIES
- Consolidate analyze and visualize waste-related data
- Research best practices into innovative data collection and visualization methods
- Assist the Zero-Waste Engagement Intern in organizing and leading waste audits on campus
- Participate in the Zero-Waste Task Force (provide updates on data trends and student perspectives to this cross-campus group of stakeholders)
- Assist in zero-waste signage projects
- Identify key locations for waste education interventions on McGills campuses
- Others as they may arise
QUALIFICATIONS
- Be a current McGill student (students from all faculties are invited to apply)
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
- Detail-oriented when entering and organizing data
- Eager to learn about and advocate for sustainability and waste reduction; creative and enthusiastic
- Interest in sustainability on campus
ASSETS:
- Connections with student sustainability groups on campus
- Research experience
- Understanding of basic sustainability concepts
- Fluency in French
HOURS: 6-10 hours per week from July 21 2025 through July 24 2026 with the possibility to extend.
REMUNERATION: $16.66 per hour 4% vacation pay and compensation for legal holidays
