Job Description

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a District AVID Literacy Coach to serve at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School and Maces Lane Middle School to promote supporting educators with utilizing AVID strategies to improve literacy instruction. This is an hourly position without benefits funded through the CLSD Read and Lead grant through August 2029. The successful candidate will demonstrate principled leadership and decision making while assuming this leadership role.

DUTIES:

  • Attend AVID PD and disseminate information learned with others.
  • Meet monthly with the RELA/AVID supervisor to establish a monthly school support plan for MLMS and C-SDHS which may include PLC/PD support informal classroom visits classroom demonstration and/or co-planning or co-teaching of a WICOR strategy.
  • Provide ongoing literacy support on targeted WICOR Strategies and run a contest for students and staff to showcase these strategies with student samples on a social media post and/or newsletter.
  • Conduct school walkthroughs with the AVID CCI Tool survey educators and collect EOY data to evaluate the effectiveness of the AVID program and implementation with meeting the district strategic plan goals.
  • Prepare and distribute materials for use in the implementation and support of the AVID program.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the AVID district PD sessions.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets and program related records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Has obtained or is eligible for a Maryland Advanced Professional License.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of current trends in education including the Maryland College and Career Standards and the MCAP assessments.
  • Knowledge of the instructional improvement process.
  • Knowledge of the AVID program.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

SALARY: The position is hourly at the Teacher rate of $50.00 an hour.
