Nelnet is seeking an experienced professional to support actuarial disciplines related to its reinsurance activities. Nelnet reinsures over 80 property and casualty programs and is actively expanding its reinsurance footprint. Nelnet also owns a single state life & health charter which operates exclusively for reinsurance opportunities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Partner with the financial underwriting team and senior management to evaluate proposed reinsurance programs
Lead reserving practices for Nelnets reinsurance portfolio under the supervision of the Chief Actuary
Aid in the development and maintenance of the companys capital model
Collaborate with senior team in strategic and tactical corporate planning
Assist in pricing new reinsurance opportunities
Partner with senior team in identifying and evaluating potential insurance-related acquisitions
Some travel is required.
Salary range for this role is: $125000-$200000 based on experience and credential progress
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate complex data and analysis to non-actuarial persons.
Bachelors degree
Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or Associate (ACAS) designation
Minimum four years experience in the property/casualty insurance industry
Proven track record in commercial lines pricing or reserving
Experience pricing large accounts and/or treaty reinsurance is preferred
Experience and/or proficiency in reinsurance or risk management is preferred with a focus on MGA program business
Familiarity with GAAP statutory and tax valuation and financial reporting
Advanced understanding of actuarial assumptions and experience analysis methods
PC and technical skills with a working knowledge of database applications ( SQL VBA R or equivalent) spreadsheets statistical programs
Advanced understanding of insurance financial metrics and analysis techniques
What Youll Be Doing
Assist in the development and completion of actuarial risk evaluations consistent with ERM standards and best practices with a strong focus on reinsurance
Lead reserving practices and ongoing reserve evaluations
Manage data reporting processes with the data analytics team focused on ongoing performance of ceded risk to Nelnets reinsurance entities
Partner with internal and external business partners to support the development of reinsurance Requests for Proposals (RFP) and/or treaty changes as needed
Provide subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders for areas under your responsibility
Organize findings in a clear systematic fashion and present actuarial recommendations to various levels of management and other stakeholders
Develop projections for financial planning and analysis and investigate major drivers of variance.
