This is a 12-month positionin the maintenance department of the Maryland School for the Deaf FrederickCampus. This position is designated as Essential Personnel.

Main Purpose of Job
Employees in this classification perform general maintenance tasks such as simple construction preventative maintenance improvements and minor repairs to buildings fixtures mechanical equipment grounds and roadways.
POSITION DUTIES
Perform general maintenance tasks such as simple constructionpreventive maintenance improvements and minor repairs to buildings fixturesmechanical equipment grounds and roadways. Employee may be required tocheck and service converter units; repair service and inspect door lockshousekeeping equipment furniture and safety equipment; assist with makingrepairs to HVAC air handler units and related equipment; perform dailypreventive maintenance checks to ensure proper operation of all equipment;install replace or repair water fountains restroom fixtures broken pipinggaskets valves and other plumbing related equipment as necessary; repair ormove furniture put up or repair drywall hang doors replace windows andwindow panes install cabinets and/or other carpentry related tasks asnecessary; apply finish and/or paint to completed projects; perform securityfunctions; ensure buildings and gates are locked each day as will be given to applicants who are able to lift 50 lbs. or more andassist with snow removal on the campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Eighth grade.
Experience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years ofexperience areprimarily in the trades of electricity plumbing steamfittings refrigeration or air-conditioning.
Notes:
1. Candidatesmay substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related fieldfor the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Willing to learnAmerican Sign Language.
Able to lift 50 more.
Able to assist with snowremoval on the campus.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
