The Assessors Office is a busy office working directly with residents businesses tourists and other members of the public with questions about Juneau! The Assessor and team are actively working to improve processes and streamline workflows as well as serve our Juneau Community fairly and effectively.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK ON OUR TEAM
The Assessors Office is a strong team that works to value property equitably throughout the Borough. We work in office as well as in the field gathering and analyzing information to determine assessed valuations. Training and development are important and you will be expected to attend (in person and virtual) courses and complete certifications in the profession of property assessment
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works Monday through Friday 8:00am 4:30pm.Your office would be located in downtown Juneau at City Hall.
This is a flex position meaning we can hire at the Appraiser I level with the expectation that the candidate will achieve the required training and certification to work at the Appraiser II level.
APPRAISER I
This is the entry/trainee professional level working under the general supervision of a higher-level appraiser. Supervisors define the work assignments regularly monitor work progress and provide specific instruction and feedback. Work is intended to familiarize employees with the policies and procedures of the department and requires the application of basic principles of property appraisal in an on-the-job environment. Incumbents receive on-the-job and formal training for a period of one to two years.
Typical responsibilities include the following (as the incumbent becomes familiar with the principals methods and techniques used the following duties will be assumed under supervision):
APPRAISER II
This is the second level in the Appraiser series. Incumbents are expected to work under general supervision performing a variety of appraisal assignments with minimal guidance and supervision. This class is distinguished from the Appraiser I by requiring professional level appraisal work experience. This level may assist higher-level appraisal professionals with a wide variety of larger and more complex assignments. Based upon sound academic and/or technical background and some experience positions allocated to this class perform a wide range of moderately difficult residential appraisals and may assist the Appraiser III with more complex appraisals.
Typical responsibilities include the following:
APPRAISER I - Range 14: $28.65 - $30.64 Hourly (DOQ)
Education:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
Experience:
EITHER:
APPRAISER II - Range 16:$32.66 - $34.87 Hourly (DOQ)
Education:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
Experience:
Qualifies as a Level I appraiser or higher from the Alaska Association of Assessing Officers or AAAO as a certified Assessor Appraiser. AND
Two (2) years of professional level experience in the appraisal field (fee and/or ad valorem). ANDCertification: Must achieve a Level II Certificate or higher from the Alaska Association of
Assessing Officers or AAAO as a certified Assessor Appraiser within twelve (12) months of hire.FOR BOTH APPRAISER I/II:
A valid Drivers License at time of appointment and for continued employment. Offer of employment is contingent upon a review of applicants driving record.Continued employment and advancement opportunities depend on successful completion of the training program meeting the requirements of the next level and acceptable job performance. These requirements must each be met in order for you to advance to the next higher Appraiser classification and for continued employment for the Finance Department.
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidates qualifications. If hired at the lower level the successful applicant will be promoted to the higher level upon meeting the minimum qualifications for the higher level completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work as determined by the supervisor.
