Vehicle Mechanic performs scheduled and non-scheduled preventative maintenance services and repairs to district vehicles and equipment such as trucks trailers automobiles off-road equipment mowers and other small equipment.

Certifications listed as required qualifications may also be obtained upon acceptance of the position.

Incumbent must meet pre-employment drug and alcohol testing requirements; subject to random drug and alcohol testing including reasonable suspicion.

  • Reports consistently for work as scheduled

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards

  • Assists leadership with organizing scheduling coordinating and overseeing various maintenance programs

  • Attends training and in-service meetings

  • Calculates an accurate cost estimate of repair work as assigned including labor supplies and parts costs

  • Ensures that all work activities adhere to all applicable federal state local industry safety standards and emissions mandates

  • Follows all safety rules and regulations

  • Installs a variety of parts and equipment on assigned vehicles including lights trailer hitches and generators

  • Maintains clean and efficient operating work area

  • Modifies tears down repairs and reassembles major automotive components and assemblies including gasoline engines automatic and standard transmissions differentials and front-end assemblies

  • Operates a mobile repair vehicle to perform needed repairs and maintenance in the field; lubricates repairs and/or diagnoses malfunctions of vehicles

  • Performs electrical repairs pneumatic system repairs hydraulic repairs mechanical repairs and fuel system repairs

  • Performs preventative maintenance procedures

  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnostic duties on all types of vehicles and heavy equipment

  • Performs a wide range of automotive inspection maintenance and repair duties

  • Performs welding repairs as needed

  • Prepares and enters records of work performed and parts used on all district equipment repaired

  • Prepares work orders and reports/solves maintenance problems before they become emergencies

  • Reads and interprets service and parts manuals understands diagrams and interprets video

  • Recommends purchase of suitable supplies tools and equipment

  • Repairs cleans replaces installs and modifies defective missing or malfunctioning components of mechanical hydraulic fuel electrical braking steering pumping and other related systems of assigned vehicles and heavy equipment

  • Repairs cleans lubricates and stores maintenance tools and equipment

  • Responds to all service breakdowns and work orders as required

  • Responds to operator requests and/or researches appropriate solutions

  • Stays current with Colorado Rules and Regulations Governing Operation of Vehicles

Required Qualifications:

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification - National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence Colorado Drivers License - Department of Revenue - Division of Motor Vehicles Commercial Drivers License (CDL) -Class A - Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Commercial Drivers License (CDL) -Class B - Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Experience in a Mechanical Service Position High school graduate -high school diploma or equivalent
