Under the direction of the school principal the Interpreter is responsible for:
providing interpreting and other support services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students;
facilitates communication among deaf and/or hard of hearing students and their hearing peers the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school system;
offers tutoring and/or note taking services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students when necessary;
participates in team meetings and assists the classroom teacher in fostering positive attitudes toward deafness;
and performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Qualifications Experience Knowledge and Skills:
Secondary school diploma;
a three year Community college diploma in sign language interpreting;
1.5 years of related experience;
excellent communication skills;
the ability to establish a rapport and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis;
initiative and commitment;
and the ability to work as a team member.
Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
In addition the following will be considered an asset:
Membership in the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) and the Ontario Interpreter Services (O.I.S.);
and NVCI CPR and First Aid.
Salary: This is a permanent full-time (1.0) ten month position with an annual salary range of $56531.00 - $60859.00. A comprehensive employee benefits package is provided.
The expected start date is September 1 2025.
